Oh behalf of Universal CityWalk, I’m excited to tell you that CityWalk sizzled on Wednesday, November 4, with the opening of Samba, a new Brazilian Steakhouse & Lounge! The opening featured mouth-watering churrasco fare, pulsing samba music and spirited dancers!

As part of the opening event, a Capoeira champ went for a "kick to the moon" record and some 40 dancers in full costumes paraded through Universal CityWalk in Hollywood.

To watch the highlights video, please go to:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=q_gGX8ibksI

Samba Brazilian Steakhouse & Lounge offers indoor and al-fresco dining amid elegant but welcoming retro decor. It will also feature a dedicated Caipirinha cocktail bar serving nearly two dozen unique variations of Brazil's national cocktail, Caipirinha, including the signature Samba, a Jalapeno-Cucumber, a Basil and Blackberry and a Caipiroska Bubble Gum. A full bar of mixed drinks, beer and wine will also be available to complement the restaurant's traditional Rodizio feasts of skewered meats including lombinho (pork sirloin), coxinha (chicken) and picanha (sirloin steak), all served tableside.

Nightly live Samba performers in full festive regalia will entertain with Brazilian and Latin musical accompaniment.

Glasses Malone Readies Cash Money/Hoo Bangin' Debut Album "Beach Cruiser"

West Coast Rapper G. Malone Readies Debut LP, Due For Release Nov. 23, 2009.

(Los Angeles, CA - 3 November 2009) -- California rap sensation Glasses Malone (aka G.Malone) has taken the industry by storm since his emergence as one of the new faces of super label Cash Money/Hoo Bangin’ Records. In preparation for the release of his upcoming album, the Watts star has compiled several of his music videos and mixtapes free for his fans.

Well-known and respected on the West Coast as an authentic representative of their storied culture, Glasses has enjoyed a rapid ascent into the upper echelon of Hip-Hop’s most talented new faces through his gritty street poetics and signature style.

Fresh of the success of his two smash hits with superstars Akon (“Certified”) and Lil Wayne & Birdman (“Haterz”), Glasses is back on the radio and television airwaves with his latest hit “Sun Come Up” featuring Rick Ross, T-Pain and Birdman. The song was premiered on BET’s popular 106 & Park video countdown show and is the latest single from his forthcoming album, slated for a November 2009 release.

Embracing his newfound stardom and the spotlight, Glasses accepted his role as a leader of the new school and got to work on his debut album “Beach Cruiser” by gathering star-studded features and crafting a unique theme that personified one of the most classic symbols of Cali lifestyle – the beach cruiser bicycle.

Paying homage to the days when rap was crafted around storytelling and albums were like audio movies, Glasses put together a project that tells the musical tale of a young Watts rapper’s life. From the ups and downs of living in poverty, to gangbanging, politics and much more, “Beach Cruiser” is set to cement Glasses’ position as one of rap’s next big things.

Glasses Malone – “Beach Cruiser: The Story” is slated for a November 23, 2009 release on Hoo Bangin’/Cash Money/Universal Motown Records.

As the anticipation builds for “Beach Cruiser” here are several of his music videos and mixtapes for free below.

"Sixty Million Dollar Flow" Glasses Malone: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7YcldvMUsJE
"Keep It 1000" Glasses Malone: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DzkAH996wRc

With the backing of a west coast legend like Mack 10 in addition to the co-sign from today’s most popular rapper in Lil Wayne, Glasses has already seen his music and videos be featured on major radio and television outlets like Power 106, BET, MTV and many more. In addition to his singles building up his buzz, he’s also released several street mixtapes with his own Blu Division crew that flooded the streets of Los Angeles and the Internet.

Blac Soap Kicks Off The Thug Hippy Movement
Florida Duo Releases Long Awaited Mixtape

Imagine taking a ride on a tricked out spaceship through outerspace with the dopest beats pulsating through the speakers as you get lifted. This is the adventure Blac Soap takes you on with their white-hot new mixtape "Scratchin Fo' Greatness"...a zen-induced journey into what sounds like the future of Hip-Hop, but is actually a full-on attempt to hold onto the foundation of the art that ultimately became a culture. Producers and artists, Seif and Fly Beads, ride eclectic beats and melodies with an astute lyricism and style that will slice through watered-down MCs like a ginsu knife. Compared to icons and organic artists like OutKast, the Heiroglyphics, Pharcyde and De La Soul, Blac Soap holds their own with their outside-the-box creativity, colorful personas, conscious lyrics and candid storytelling. Welcome to the "Thug Hippy" movement...put your fists up and enjoy the ride!

Hi Everyone,
As many of you know news about my book "An Unsung Coach" has made its way to the UK and I have heard from a few brothers & sisters over there who are doing wonderful things on behalf of the next generation. Below is an email I received from Ms. Lorna Jones, who organizes an essay contest every year for children of African Descent and she is looking for our help. That is why I emailed you , as you work with or on behalf of young African-Americans who may be interested in sending in an entry. Be sure to check out the links below, and contact Ms Jones if you have any questions. Please spread the word and help build a bridge between the UK &US
Thanks Tony

Dear Mr. Price,
I hope you are well. I am a Caribbean woman living in London.
I run the annual Essay Contest for Children of African Descent, an initiative that is now in its fifth year and which has only two goals: support and encourage children of African descent aged 8 to 16 years from across Africa and the African diaspora in their educational development.

Over 200 children participated in 2009 from English and French speaking Africa, the UK, the Caribbean. Unfortunately, no children participated from the USA this year. My purpose in writing to you is to ask whether you might see value in what I'm doing to the point that you may be able to help me find some children of African descent in the US who might want to participate.

Please visit the following links to read samples of this year's winning essays.

Former award-winning Miami Herald writer to pen hip hop star's autobiography

Peter Bailey, 28, has signed a deal with MTV Books/ Simon Schuster to co-write the autobiography of platinum selling Miami rapper Trick Daddy. In it, Bailey will chronicle Trick's poverty-stricken childhood, crime-laden adolescence and eventual incarceration for drug trafficking, leading to his redemption and fame against the backdrop of Miami. "Magic City: Trials of A Native Son" is slated to be the first in depth autobiography on a Southern rap pioneer from a major publishing house.

Bailey is well known for his gritty but yet inspirational profile stories on unsung heroes in Miami's impoverished inner city. His series entitled "On The Margins" won the 2007 award for best education reporting in Florida by the Society of Professional Journalists. The series was also awarded a Green Eye Shade Award for videography. Bailey captured the imagination of readers with his portrayal of a dedicated school paraprofessional who scraped by on a $12,500 annual salary. Bailey was also honored by the National Association of Black Journalists for a project called "Shackled Education".

"Trick's life story embodies all the issues I covered while at the Herald so landing the project is definitely a dream come true,'' says Bailey, who worked as a reporter for Time before joining the Herald in 2005. In regards to the declining newspaper industry Baileys offers some sobering advice: "The possibilities for journalists daring enough to step outside the scope of traditional print media are limitless...great storytelling is a timeless craft and not a passing fad.''

MTV Books recently published autobiographies on 50 Cent and Nikki Sixx (of Motley Crue) which both became New York Times bestsellers.

Global Subliminal Programming

I have notice that in the past few years that American News Media has taken its subliminal programming promoting racial/euro-centric superiority to a new level; The World. Or, in the least, those sections of the world deemed relevant.

Case in Point
See if you can spot what's wrong with this scroll. The following appeared on the CNN news scroll on Tuesday 20th, 2009.

Spain: 16 dead in bus crash, a Dutch teenager was among the dead.

Although I am sure that some of you will delude yourself but I must ask. If the situation had been different what headlines do you think would have made the scroll?

Spain: 16 dead in bus crash, an American teenager was among the dead.
Spain: 16 dead in bus crash, an Australian teenager was among the dead.
Spain: 16 dead in bus crash, a German teenager was among the dead.
Spain: 16 dead in bus crash, an Ethiopian teenager was among the dead.
Spain: 16 dead in bus crash, an Algerian teenager was among the dead.
Spain: 16 dead in bus crash, an Filipino teenager was among the dead.

Obviously, one death is just as tragic as the next but, in America we have a way of diminishing a person's worth based of ethnicity or social status. If you think I am just postulating a myth ask what an economist for the defense does in wrongful death suit when the victim lives in a impoverished neighborhood.

Why are grief counselors readily dispatched to the schools when a tragedy of almost any cause happens in an affluent or middle-class district whereas the most horrendous crimes can occur within inner-city schools with barely a mention. Just ask yourself America, just ask yourself.

My e-mail may not get generated around the news room in the manner that I hoped but, if it did I am sure you will find that what I have stated will come as no surprise to many of the minorities and peoples of color working there. I pity most those workers who completely understand this but, due to office politics and self preservation, are unable to address it.
As for the rest of you, keep reading my newsletters and eventually you will learn to think, really think.

From: Phillip Ghee,   phillipghee@yahoo.com

Jerk Music’s Hottest Crew The Ranger$ Ready “Jerkin’ Is A Habit Vol. 1” On Nov. 10th Habit Vol. 1” November 10th On RBC Records

Los Angeles, CA (October 19, 2009) -- Starting out as a dance crew, The Ranger$ began posting up their Jerk videos to YouTube and the craze that is Jerk Music thus began. With their channel being viewed over 8 million times, the argument can easily be made that the video featuring their Jerk moves to the tune of the New Boyz “You’re a Jerk!” helped the movement break the glass ceiling.

Now it’s their time with the release of their first project “Jerkin’ Is A Habit Vol. 1” In Stores November 10th. With a full length album featuring some of the hottest names in the Jerk movement (Baby Dollz, JHawk, Indigo Vanity, Cliff Savage, Yong 3rd and more) the package also contains a 3 hour DVD of Behind the Scenes footage, Classic YouTube Videos and even Lessons on how to Jerk dance by the Ranger$ themselves.

While the singles “Number 1 Dime” and “Around She Goes” are already receiving over 100,000 plays and downloads , the group is determined to prove that they are not boxed in by their sub-genre and willingly push the boundaries.

Very few hip hop fans and critics remember that there are 4 elements of Hip Hop. Rapping, DJing, Graffiti and Dancing. In the midst of the gangsta movement that catapulted Hip Hop into the next realm, several of the elements seemed to fall on the wayside. Until the last few years, Hip hop dancing had yet to be embraced once again by the masses.

Enter Jerk Music.
It pulsates through the airwaves and video websites with hundreds of thousands, and in some cases, MILLIONS of plays and views. You cannot avoid it.

Front and center of the movement, is the multi-talented super crew “The Ranger$” with “Jerkin’ Is A Habit Vol. 1”.

In Stores November 10th.

The teacher gave her fifth grade class an assignment: get their Parents to tell them a story with a moral at the end of it.

The next day, the kids came back and, one by one, began to tell their stories.
There were all the regular types of stuff: spilled milk and pennies saved.
But then the teacher realized, much to her dismay, that only Ernie was left.

"Ernie, do you have a story to share?"
Yes ma'am. My daddy told a story about my Aunt Susie. She was a pilot in
Desert Storm, and her plane got hit. She had to bail out over enemy
territory, and all she had was a flask of whiskey, a pistol, and a
survival knife. She drank the whiskey on the way down so the bottle
wouldn't break ,and then her parachute landed her right in the middle of
20 Iraqi troops. She shot 15 of them with the pistol, until she ran out
of bullets, killed four more with the knife, till the blade broke, and
then she killed the last Iraqi with her bare hands."

"Good Heavens," said the horrified teacher, "what kind of moral did your daddy tell you from this horrible story?"

"Stay the hell away from Aunt Susie when she's been drinking," he replied.

I am not as good as I should be; I am not as good as I could be; but THANK GOD, I am better than I used to be

HOUSING IS A HUMAN RIGHT: STORIES FROM THE STRUGGLE FOR HOME ORAL HISTORY. REMIXED.

Saturday, October 17, 2009 from 6 pm – 9 pm at SUPERFRONT, 1432 Atlantic Avenue Brooklyn

Laundromat Project Create Change Artist-in-Residence, Michael Premo and former StoryCorps facilitator Rachel Falcone announce the kick-off exhibits of Housing is a Human Right (HHR), an ongoing multimedia documentary portrait of the struggle for home in New York City. Composed of oral narratives and photographs, along with testimonies and memories of home, woven and remixed with the help of turntablist DJ Oja Vincent, this collection of viscerally honest, first-person narratives serve as a reminder that home is as tenuous a space in New York City as the shelter that sustains it.

Opening Reception, Saturday, October 17, 2009 from 6 pm – 9 pm at SUPERFRONT, 1432 Atlantic Avenue, Brooklyn. Stories will be exhibited in a group show with 2 other Create Change artists October 17 – December 12, 2009, organized by The Laundromat Project and SUPERFRONT, with an opening reception Oct 17. Gallery Hours: Saturdays and Sundays, 1-6, and by appointment.

Housing is a Human Right can also be heard at Wash and Play Lotto Laundromat, 81 Lafayette St, Brooklyn, from October 27 – Nov 2 with a sidewalk listening party on Tuesday October 27 From 6 - 8:30pm. Bring your laundry and engage in a cycle of stories.

This is an ON-GOING project that is just beginning. In an effort to share with the community what it is we are doing, invite participation, feedback, and dialogue we are presenting a kick-off exhibit of 11 stories we have collected to date along with "remixed testimony" proclaiming the right to our home and housing. Come hear your neighbors and let your voice be heard!

THE HHTF READING SERIES AT THE NYC FESTIVAL

SEED
Written by Radha Blank
In collaboration with The Classical Theatre of Harlem

"Radha's work has an urban grit and grind, while at the same treating her characters with tender vulnerability." --Kamilah Forbes, Artistic Director HHTF

Burnt-out social worker Anne Simpson wants to retire on a high note, when Chee-Chee, a gifted nine-year-old from the last “projects” in Anne’s gentrified Harlem neighborhood, collides into her life and forces her to confront the shadows of her past. Much to his mother Latonya’s chagrin, Chee-Chee and Anne develop an unconventional friendship, leading to an explosive encounter that threatens Chee-Chee’s future. This compelling new play asks us to confront the class and cultural divides in New York’s most prominent black community. seed was developed with support from The Classical Theatre of Harlem. At the Ohio Theater October 12. Buy tickets now.

LEGENDARY MC GURU RELEASED LEAD TRACK "LOST AND FOUND" FROM NEW ALBUM

Legendary emcee Guru (GangStarr, Jazzmatazz) and hit producer Solar, the teaming that has already produced three hit albums ("Version 7.0: The Street Scriptures", "Jazzmatazz Vol. 4" and "The Timebomb/Back To The Future"), have released their anticipated new album "Guru 8.0 Lost & Found" earlier this year via their successful boutique label 7 Grand Records.

"Guru 8.0 Lost & Found" is the upgrade Hip-Hop fans have been waiting for. The today's Hip-Hop game is missing lyrical and storytelling content and is oversaturated with artists talking about nonsense like "Jerk", "Swag Surfing", and senseless dance moves instead of focusing on the true art of emceeing.

"It was necessary in today’s Hip-Hop game to release another classic to keep REAL Hip-Hop alive," stated GangStarr founder Guru.

"Guru 8.0 Lost & Found" is Hip-Hop in its purest form and features little collaboration beyond 7 Grand artists, K. Born, Highpower and Doo Wop, the UK soul singer Omar, and the first ever appearance of producer Solar as an emcee.

Three examples of the diversity, both musically and lyrically, found on "Guru 8.0 Lost & Found" are tracks like the lead single "Lost And Found", "Best Of My Years", "Fast Lane" and "Divine Rule."

"Lost And Found" is a serious banger built around a loop of The Animals' 1964 classic "House Of The Rising Sun". "Best Of My Years" has a classic Hip-Hop feel to it, "Fast Lane" is a southern Hip-Hop inspired track that shows off Solar's ability to take an established subgenre of Hip-Hop and rework it to make it his own. Stretching things out even further is "Divine Rule," which is a throwback to Hip-Hop's early beginnings when emcees used to rhyme over disco breaks.

"Guru 8.0 Lost & Found" is what the game has been missing and what true Hip-Hop fans have been waiting for. So if looking for Hip-Hop's new coordinates, turn off your radio, pop in "Guru 8.0 Lost & Found", and you will find your way indeed.

"Guru 8.0 Lost & Found" is now available in stores and online!

Dear Friends, Family, and Colleagues,
I officially announced Soul Food Junkies, my next full-length film project, around this time last year. As we approach Thanksgiving 2009, I'm blessed to announce a major development with that same project.

As many of you may recall, Soul Food Junkies is a documentary that will explore the history and soci al significance of soul food to black cultural identity and its affect on African-American health, good and bad. Your response to this topic over the past year has been very encouraging. You have let me know that this is a subject that really needs to be addressed. I'm excited that you are ready to take this journey with me into new territory. Soul Food Junkies promises to be as ground-breaking as my award-winning film, Hip-Hop: Beyond Beats and Rhymes.

Since my last announcement, I secured research and development funding from the Independent Television Service (ITVS) and have completed the Soul Food Junkies trailer. I traveled across the country to interview experts and everyday people about this topic. Here's a glimpse of what my crew and I captured – just enough to wet your appetite! Click the "Sneak Peek" link.

As I've done for other successful film projects, I am embarking on an online fundraising campaign to complete Soul Food Junkies. My goal is to get 100 people per month (for the next six months) to donate $25 each. Your donations will be tax-deductible through my fiscal sponsor Third World Newsreel. You can DONATE NOW ONLINE or mail a check to the address below.

If donating online, please enter your donation amount and then make sure to scroll down to "additional options" and designate your donation to Soul Food Junkies. Most importantly, I'm excited about this new undertaking and hope that I can count on your continued support.

In the early 1950s, legendary baseball hero Jackie Robinson literally "tested the ice" for his kids who so eagerly wanted to skate on the frozen lake near their home. Under Sharon Robinson's skillful authorship and Kadir Nelson's vivid illustrations, TESTING THE ICE also becomes a stunning metaphor for her father's remarkable racial breakthrough.
