The collaboration with boohoo.com will see Jordyn Woods design two special collections for autumn and holiday that will cater to girls of all shapes and sizes from 2 – 22. The collections will include party dresses, matching separates, oversized sweaters, denim and outerwear inspired by her distinctive contemporary style.

Rock the “Dress Over Pant” Trend This Fall With Alexa Taylor

We’ve all been there. You’ve spent your entire wardrobe budget on pretty dresses and skirts, and now that summer is over you’re wondering how these beauties are going to transition to fall. My client, Alexa Taylor, fashion blogger and style expert, believes that this fall everyone can Raise the sartorial bar with the dress-over-pants look (or D.O.P. for short). The new modern way to pull of a D.O.P, according to Alexa, is decidedly more streamlined and sophisticated. And, it isn’t tough to master at all.

Emma Watson may have brought the D.O.P. idea back to the masses this past awards season, but these 5 fashionable ladies selected by Alexa Taylor were rocking the look long before the fashion-forward actress.

Checkout the tips to achieving this look!

    1. Casually Cool: A sweater dress over jeans is proof that a statement piece (or two) can amp up any old look. One tip to keep in mind when rocking skinnies underneath a heavy dress and coat combo is keep them as skin-tight as possible.

    2. Sophisticated Layering: Nothing is worse than making a 45-minute commute in a pencil skirt and heels, and it’s even worse when it’s blistering cold. Alexa Taylor loves this office-appropriate layering trick — a simple, straight-cut dress over slim pants.

    3. Edgy Princess: While this D.O.P. has nothing to do with utility, you’ll no doubt get attention from street style shutterbugs in a wispy look (even if you are shivering). The man-repelling Leandra adds a punch of drama to an otherwise boring outfit with layered tulle and two-tone tap shoes.

    4. Pretty in Pink: Not only do leather pants add a dose of badass to a super girly getup, but they allow you to wear that too-short-to-be-worn-alone babydoll dress. Alexa loves how this editor mixes her prints.

    5. The Mix Master: Who says duck boots have to be frumpy? Take a cue from Taylor Tomasi Hill, the crimson-haired editor-turned-florist, in this winter-ready outfit. She’s a pro when it comes to mixing flashy accessories like this glam gold plated belt ($20) with everyday staples like this oversized plaid shirt.

(BPRW) Legendary Fashion Designer B Michael Partners with Macy’s to Present His Debut Runway Fashion Show at the 47th Annual NAACP Image Awards Luncheon on Feb. 4

Actress and Singer Brandy Norwood to model his iconic designs in the show

(Black PR Wire) LOS ANGELES--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Macy’s has partnered with couture and ready-to-wear designer B Michael to produce the first b Michael America runway fashion show at this year’s NAACP Image Awards luncheon, which honors the nominees of the 47th annual NAACP Image Awards, on Thursday, Feb. 4, 2016, at the Langham Hotel in Pasadena, CA. Actress and singer Brandy Norwood, known for her work on “Moesha,” “I Still Know What You Did Last Summer,” and “Cinderella,” will walk in the fashion show. B Michael previously dressed the star for her media junkets during her run in “Chicago” on Broadway and also collaborated with her costume designer on her new series for BET, “Zoe Ever After.”

Following a panel discussion, the fashion show will feature social dresses from the b Michael America Red collection, available exclusively at select Macy’s stores and on macys.com, and close with several pieces from his couture collection.

“I’m proud to be a part of the NAACP Image Awards luncheon and celebrate the exemplary works by the undeniably talented nominees who work so hard to promote diversity in the arts,” said B Michael. “It’s an honor to dress Brandy again for the fashion show, and I’m grateful to have the continued support of Macy’s, which has been such a valuable partner.”

Known for designing dresses for icons such as Whitney Houston, Lena Horne, Cicely Tyson, and Valerie Simpson, B Michael launched his ready-to-wear collection b Michael America Red at Macy’s in 2012 to reach a broader audience. The easy-to-wear collection, which ranges in price between $225 for dresses to $650 for gowns, offers a contemporary spin on the designer’s signature haute couture style, resulting in a simple yet sophisticated look.

“Macy’s is extremely excited to be a part of the NAACP Image Awards luncheon with B Michael, who is such an inspiring talent and leader in the fashion community,” said Louis Mastrogiacomo, Macy’s executive vice president and general merchandise manager of ready-to-wear. “We look forward to our continued partnership and the success of b Michael America Red at Macy’s.”

    Delia Alleyne Atelier

The “Let’s Paint” women’s fashion collection created for spring and summer of 2016 offers a splash of colorful contrast against black silhouettes. Fashion Designer, Delia Alleyne introduced the line during the September 2015 market week in New York City. The looks include rompers, jackets, funky trousers and that classic little black dress. The “Let’s Paint” collection is splashy, bold and is styled with a retro artist’s cap that makes the collection reminiscent of the psychedelic sixties. The applied fabrics range from nets to denim, to brocades as the paint splatter and appliquéing adds detail and an interesting design element to the collection.

“Painting is like a metaphor for life...”, explains Delia. “We are born as blank canvases waiting to be. Then moment by moment, stroke by stroke... We create life’s memories by applying one colorful moment in our life at a time.”

Delia, with her distinguished pink hairstyle, has a passion for colorful fashions. Residing in Trinidad and Tobago, Delia creates fashions tailored towards confident women. Her personal clients are bold about making a grand appearance during special occasions, nightlife hot spots and red carpet showcases. Delia is inspired by the many crafty artists who surround her Caribbean nation. She began her career designing fashion gowns for pageantry. Delia’s tenure at Trinidad’s Caribbean Academy of Fashion and Design school prepared her for a mentorship working on costume design projects with the famed Caribbean couturieres Meiling Esau. Delia strives to bring an avant-garde genre of fashion design into ready-to-wear by applying unique design details, and using finer fabrics. Delia’s goal is for the “Let’s Paint” collection to become a luxuriant lifestyle brand that is recognized throughout the Caribbean.

Inspirational Fashion Mogul Launches African Inspired Clothing Line

    Acquah

Yaw Acquah’s foray into fashion is a true rags to riches story. After losing his job as a physiotherapist in November, UK based businessman Acquah turned lemons into lemonade, launching his fashion forward brand IMPALA Clothing. The trademark African themed start up infuses the vibrant colours and bold patterns of African textiles with contemporary Western fashion themes. Battling with dyslexia and ADHD, Acquah’s passion for fashion inspired him to launch his own independent fashion label focusing on his African influence.

After losing his job last year, Acquah decided to take the opportunity to use his creative talents and launch IMPALA. IMPALA Clothing features a stunning array of bright, bold designs encapsulating the essence of African fashion. With male and female ranges available, a plethora of affordable and authentically African fashions are on offer including the unique Wax Print Pencil Skirt Drum Print for women and the Tribal Chevrons Pullover for men.

Yaw Acquah, Founder of IMPALA Clothing said, “The idea for the company came fully formed, when I started to notice I would get a really positive reaction every time I wore a traditional African print shirt. The problem was that as great as the patterns were, the fit of the clothes really didn't tie in with what was current. So I really wanted the collection to be as bold and vibrant as possible, reflecting that African tradition, whilst integrating the cut of the clothes with a contemporary high street aesthetic.”

As a second generation Ghanaian, Acquah regularly calls upon his African heritage for inspiration to inform his desirable designs. The stunning range serves as a midway point between African and Western cultures, marrying African patterns and prints with the Western high street style. Accurately reflective of Acquah’s status as a second generation man of African heritage raised in the West, IMPALA straddles the line between both influences. With the world turning to Africa as an up and coming fashion hub, IMPALA is perfectly placed to meet the needs of those looking for unique and unusual African inspired ethnic prints.

Rather than seeing his conditions as a negative, Acquah views his ADHD and dyslexia as an advantage when dealing with chaos of a start up business.

Mr Acquah adds, “I have never let my learning disorders hold me back, and in fact I think my way of working has really helped me with the launch of IMPALA. I’m having to think creatively and work extra hard and I know the brand will be successful. Hopefully my story will inspire other individuals with ADHD or dyslexia to follow their dreams and start a business.”

IMPALA Clothing also offers a look book designed to help customers put together their own innovative looks. To find out more about IMPALA Clothing and its exciting and exotic African designs visit http://www.impalaclothing.com

About IMPALA Clothing: The brainchild of Yaw Acquah, a UK citizen of Ghanaian origin, IMPALA Clothing marries the very best of authentic African fashions with Western influence. Featuring men’s and women’s lines and vintage looks, IMPALA Clothing offers the best of African-oriented fashion, just as the world is beginning to sit up and take notice of African innovations in the fashion world.

(BPRW) Macy’s Salutes the Culture-Defining Soul Era of Black Style in Celebration of Black History Month 2015

Macy’s brings together June Ambrose and Johnette Boone at eight stores nationwide for inspiring discussions on culture and fashion influence

Macy’s Salutes the Culture-Defining Soul Era
    (Graphic: Business Wire)

(BLACK PR WIRE) -- NEW YORK--(BUSINESS WIRE)-- This February, culture-defining trends take center stage as Macy’s examines the Soul Era of Black Style in celebration of Black History Month. From elegant high glamour to the hottest looks on the street, Black Style has influenced trends and designers that have shaped American and global culture. Celebrity fashion stylists and designers June Ambrose and Johnetta Boone will lead a panel discussion on Soul Era style and take a look back at the fashion, accessories and attitude that rocked the runways of the ‘60s and ‘70s, which had an undeniable effect on the way people look and dress today.

“As a retailer with more than 150 years of fashion history, Macy’s has seen the evolution of Black Style first hand and we are thrilled to recognize and celebrate the style icons and trends of the Soul Era in honor of Black History Month,” said Dineen Garcia, Macy’s vice president of diversity strategies. “As part of our annual celebration, this series of events will take a look at the cultural and historical contributions made by African Americans throughout the ‘60s and ‘70s --a defining era in fashion history.”

June Ambrose is a celebrity fashion stylist and costume designer and has worked with some of the biggest names in the entertainment industry for the past 22 years. Author of the book “Effortless Style,” Ambrose has won numerous awards in recognition for her contributions to the fashion and music industry. Ambrose recently celebrated the launch of her June by “June Ambrose” collection.

“I’m excited to be working with Macy’s as we celebrate and recognize revolutionary African American designers and style icons that inspired me as child and my own experiences through fashion,” said June Ambrose.

For more than three decades, Johnetta Boone has served as fashion stylist and costume designer for editorial and print campaigns, television shows, national commercials and feature films. Some of her most notable costume designs can be seen in Cadillac Records, Tyler Perry’s Temptation, The Notebook and a host of others. In addition, Boone also designs a clothing line entitled Z2 Wear.

“With the broad explosion of freedom in the late 60s and 70s, many fashion designers and musical artists reached for higher realms of expression in dress, inspired by Black Style,” said Johnetta Boone. “It was all about pure fun. Bright, exuberant color showcased excitement like never before, both in prints and in fabrication. Shapes and lengths were no longer dictated by previous tastes. Men wore their hair long and sported exciting patterns, while women’s style took a more daring turn for the time with shorter skirts and midriff-baring tops.”

Following the panel discussion, Macy’s will host a customer reception along with an informal fashion show of re-created trends from the Soul Era.

Introducing Naja, the inventive online lingerie brand that speaks volumes

Naja, a digitally driven, forward-thinking innovator in the lingerie industry, has officially launched to rave reviews. Naja, billed as the “radically different, thoughtful lingerie brand for smart, courageous and sexy women”, was pioneered by Colombian-born CEO, Catalina Girald. No stranger to the fashion and technology industries, Catalina founded MOXSIE, one of the first venture-funded fashion sites for independent designers which was later sold to Fab.com.

Today, women looking for fashionable bras under $80 have limited choices, including Victoria’s Secret. However, a growing number of shoppers have expressed dissatisfaction with the mass retailer, citing a lack of innovative designs, low construction quality, and environmental impact amongst their concerns. Naja changes all of that.

In keeping with Catalina’s vision of making great design accessible, the collection is fairly priced with bras ranging from $45 to $70 and panties ranging from $12 to $22.

Perhaps the most interesting thing about Naja is the company’s dedication to changing women’s lives. Through Naja’s Underwear for Hope program, the company donates a percentage of profits to training women in the poorest and most violent areas of the world to sew. Naja then employs them so that they can help themselves and their children. With each purchase of Naja, consumers can feel good knowing that they are contributing to changing a woman’s life.

    Julian Chang 2014 Collection!

    - Miami based fashion designer Julian Chang’s summer line is both sexy yet simplistic to reflect the ease of dressing on the Greek Islands. With uses of color blocking and nautical stripes, the Julian Chang spring collection is projected to turn heads in the fashion industry this season. -

On his recent trip to Athens, Chang was amazed by the effortlessly sensual Greek way of dress that was full of style, femininity, and strength. Using playful touches of color blocking, Chang’s collection showcases ranges of blues; including royal blue, aqua, turquoise, and lime over his black and white color blocking. Adding his interpretation of the stripes and color blocking trend this season, Chang mixed bright summer colors with traditional stripes for added fun and flare all with a nautical flair to reflect sailing the Greek Islands.
