    Bomnin Chevrolet acquires Grand Prize Chevrolet, creating jobs, expanding service area and availability


    MIAMI – Bomnin Chevrolet in Miami acquired Grand Prize Chevrolet in West Kendall, Florida on Friday expanding their footprint in the Miami area, the dealership announced Tuesday.

    The acquisition was completed Friday after nearly two years of negotiations and increases the opportunity for Bomnin Chevrolet to offer service to customers in more than one location.

    “Grand Prize Chevrolet has truly been a model of excellence in the community and we are eager to continue to expand on the decades of good work they have done,” said Arnaldo Bomnin, owner of Bomnin Chevrolet. “We’re grateful to the South Florida community for supporting us. This opportunity will allow us to better serve the community by offering more locations and expanding our service capabilities.”

    In addition to the acquisition, Bomnin is planning to expand the service center at the original Bomnin Chevrolet location. As a result of the acquisition and the service center expansion, new jobs will be created.

    Bomnin Chevrolet was already the largest Chevrolet retail dealership in the southeastern U.S. and fifth largest dealership in the nation. Additionally, both Bomnin Chevrolet and Grand Prize Chevrolet won the Chevrolet Dealer of the Year Award for 2015.

    1990 Rover Mini Cooper ‘RSP’ with just 293 miles on the clock


    The stars of ‘The Italian Job’ were three Mk1 Austin Mini Cooper S's, in red, white and blue. At the hands of the film stunt drivers these cars became legends. Not many modifications were needed for the wow factor stunts as the Coopers were race bred and so were incredibly hardy. The only real problem that they posed for the stunt drivers was their low ground clearance.

    H&H Classics will offer the following Minis at Donington

    * 1990 Rover Mini Cooper ‘RSP’ – 293 miles from new. The first Mini to be badged as a Cooper in a generation, the ‘RSP’ (Rover Special Products) model is highly sought after by collectors. Estimated at £17,500 - £22,500, this extremely low mileage example has been cherished by its two registered keepers.

    * 1989 ERA Mini Turbo – 18,000 miles from new. Original book pack including service book. Number 12 of just 337 made (many of which went to Japan). The fastest classic Mini variant thanks to its punchy turbocharged 1275cc engine, the ERA was also among the rarest. Estimate: £14,000 - £16,000

    *Red Mini Sprite1996 CC1275 Trim Colour Black MOT E,xpiry Sept 2017 Estimate £4000 – 5000.

    * 1969 Austin Mini 1000 MKII Countryman – 1 of just 58 Austin Mini MKII ‘Woodies’ known to the Mini Register. Entered from a private collection and the subject of much past restoration work. Estimate: £11,000 - £13,000

    * 1985 Mini 1000 City E – current family ownership since 1993. Extensively restored some ten years ago and uprated with a 1293cc engine and gearbox. Estimate: £2,500 - £3,500

    * 1982 Mini Mayfair – Marketed as an upmarket version of the Mini perfect for the sophisticated urbanite, the Mayfair was more expensive and better trimmed than its siblings. Subject to some cosmetic restoration last year and MOT’d until July 2017, this particular automatic example is offered for sale at No Reserve.

    * 1996 Rover Mini Sprite – Distinctively registered as ‘M1 NYW’ (Mini W) and in the current ownership since 1999, this particular example was treated to a repaint in 2004 and is understood to have covered just 69,700 miles. Estimate: £4,000 - £5,000

    * 1986 Mini Mayfair – current family ownership from new. Kept garaged and repainted in 2011, this beloved Mayfair is offered for sale with a MOT certificate valid until September 2017. A manual example showing some 48,000 miles, it is estimated at £3,000 - £4,000.

    Despite the fundamental brilliance of Sir Alec Issigonis’ ground breaking design, the Mini only took off when celebrities like Paul McCartney and Twiggy bought them. Then the sales went crazy and in 'swinging' London it quickly became the coolest car to be seen in.

Throughout the month of October a portion of the sales of pink wipers will be donated to NBCF. The wipers are available at over 210 participating Valvoline Instant Oil Change locations in 12 states.

    Now in its fifth year, the campaign has raised more than $55,000 for NBCF.

And, yes, she still “turns wrenches” for fun, nowadays.


    It’s been a summer of finger-pointing politics, wildfires out west, box office crashes and smash-hits…a typical, American summer.

    Something had to give. And, it did: Pokémon Go.

    Just released in the U.S. last week, gamers coast-to-coast are walking around like zombies, watching their phone screens in hopes of catching their next prize with a Pokeball or meeting up at the Pokémon Gym. Missed dates, missed opportunities and missed steps.

    The app tells you to be careful. Look where you are going. But, does anyone really listen? Of course not! Too much fun to be had. And, you remember what “mom” used to tell us: “It’s all fun and games until someone has to go to the emergency room.”

    She’s right. Since the game introduction, last week, there has been an uptick in the number of injuries caused by not paying attention to your surroundings. Tripping over curbs. Falling over objects. One player was so embarrassed by the way he was injured, he lied to the ER staff regarding the circumstances leading up to the fall. Pokémon Go was never mentioned.

    And, you don’t have travel on-foot. Fun can be had while biking or driving. Wait a minute! Driving?

    That’s right. The game is active on your mobile device up to 20 mph.

    So, how many of those new, fender benders this past week were due to either playing the game while driving or rushing to a Pokémon Go event? How many are going to admit that the game was at the root of the traffic incident – if they can help it? That’s easy! Zero!

    “Keep your hands on the wheel, eyes on the road and mind on driving,” is the message that Capt. Jeffrey Bissainthe, of the Florida Highway Patrol, wants to convey to all drivers coast-to-coast. “Along with its public safety partners across our state and nation, (we) are doing everything possible to educate motorists on the dangers of distracted driving.”

    Bissainthe’s message holds even more weight as the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration released their annual, traffic data report. The numbers are not good.

    According to the NHTSA stats, traffic accident fatalities are up 7.7% from the previous year’s figures. And, injuries – minor to severe -reached more than 400,000. Another disturbing fact within these figures: Pedestrian and bicyclists’ deaths have increased, dramatically.

    So, who’s distracted while driving? The numbers speak for themselves. The National Occupant Protection Use Survey, an agency within the National Center for Health Statistics posts: “At any given daylight moment across America, approximately 660,000 drivers are using cell phones or manipulating electronic devices while driving, a number that has held steady since 2010.”

    That’s a lot of distracted driving going on – before the game was introduced.

    We’re playing the game. We’re distracted. We’re in motion – up to 20 mph – driving down a neighborhood street or parking lot. So, how far can a car (or truck) travel while driving 20 mph? Doesn’t sound like a lot, does it? Let’s do the math.

    It takes approximately four seconds to make a right hand turn. It takes around six seconds to make a left hand turn. So, we’ll split the difference. We’ll take five seconds. Therefore, if you look at your phone for approximately five seconds to check and see the location of the closest Pokémon Gym, while driving – or biking – you will have traveled 105 feet. What does 105 feet look like? Ever glance up to the roof line of a five-story building? Give or take a foot, that’s about 105 feet. Get the picture? Well, if a vehicle or pedestrian crosses your path within that 105 feet – while you are looking down at your smart phone – instant accident, instant statistic.

    If you happened to look up after the five-second, Pokémon check, you travel 45 more feet while comprehending the object in your way. Then, there is another 20 feet of braking action. You added on another 65 feet of distance on top of the 105 traveled. That equates to 170 feet before coming to a dead stop, in an attempt to avoid an object, vehicle, pedestrian or bicyclist. More than half of a football field passed by your windshield and you didn’t even notice. By the way, that’s the distance between the roofline to foundation of a seven-story building.

    And, remember. We’re just going 20 mph in a vehicle - or on a bike.

    At speeds greater than 20 mph, the Pokémon Go app will not track. The 20 mph speed limit was coded into the app. Will Pokémon programmers reset the speed setting – to a lower limit – after the rash of internet incidents that occurred the first week of game play?

    So, we reached out to Pokémon IP-Pokémon Company, owners of the game app, to see if a reduced speed limit was in the works. No far, no comment.

    The other side of the coin? The Pokémon app appears that it’s good for “mom and pop” business.

    Shops are taking advantage of the playtime by introducing gamers to their restaurants and stores. It’s simple and easy to increase traffic to their door. All an owner has to do is place a “lure,” at their business location and Pokémon Go players are drawn to their address to collect different types of Pokémon tokens on their hand-held devices. While participants are at the business, they can either browse, purchase or note the location for future needs. One family pizza business said that after placing a “lure,” the restaurant had their best week – ever. Very smart.

    Uber drivers are getting on the bandwagon, too. There are ads touting Uber transportation, inviting Pokémon Go players to, “leave the driving to us and enjoy the game!” Good idea! Helps the economy. Keeps players and non-participants separated on the roadways.

    What an interesting week it has been for all of us. Only 10 days ago, we were sitting in front of our large screen monitors collecting trinkets and battling foes. Now, the game board has changed, forever. It will be interesting to see with the future holds. Will autonomous vehicles linked to a future, Pokémon Go-type app play along with humans? Will red, blue, yellow cars and trucks “team-up?” Will you be fighting for parking spaces at the gym? I’ll get back to you with those answers – and more! As soon as I figure out where I left my childhood, Magic 8 Ball.

    CADILLAC INTIMATELY LINKED TO LIFE OF PRESIDENT JOHN F. KENNEDY FOR SALE WITH H&H CLASSICS

    H&H Classics are selling a 1949 Cadillac that comes freighted with the astonishing Kennedy clan history, a presence at the wedding of JFK and Jackie, at the baptism of their children, his presidential inauguration and at JFK’s funeral following his assassination in 1963, a story that still perplexes and fascinates the world.

    The Cadillac will be sold at H&H Classics Chateau Impney sale on July 10th in the Midlands for an estimated £35,000 to £45,000.

    The car was owned by the Archbishop of Boston, Richard J. Cushing (1895-1970), a close friend of the Kennedys (who were Catholics). He officiated at the marriage of John F. Kennedy and Jacqueline Bouvier in 1953 and he baptised many of the Kennedy children and gave the prayer invocation at JFK's presidential inauguration in 1961. Cushing also led the religious ceremony at President John F. Kennedy’s funeral in 1963. Research indicates that this car would have carried the Cardinal to all these happy and sad Kennedy events.

    Cushing was known for his very liberal views on Catholicism which led him on occasion to openly disagree with the Vatican. He was made a Cardinal in 1958 by Pope John XIII.

    The 1949 Cadillac 75 Fleetwood 5-passenger Sedan has a 160 hp 5.4 litre V8 engine. Only 220 cars of this type were made and this is number 103. It is finished in black with a beige/brown cloth interior with wooden trim, and whitewall tyres and has a 4-speed Hydra-Matic (automatic) gearbox. The car is fitted with electric windows and it still has the original radio. It was one of the last Cadillacs with 'Turret-Top' styling. The car is well restored, is in excellent condition and will turn heads at shows or on the road because of its fascinating history and massive size - 5,7 meter (226 inches) length, 1,83 meter (68,5 inches) height and 2 meter (82 5/16 inches) width.

    This historic car’s second owner was Mrs Jeanne Klonel and her son Mr Ronald S Klonel from Indiana. Around 2000, Ronald Klonel sold the car to a collector from Finland, who in turn sold the car to the present owner in 2004. The Finnish registration document stated that the car was once owned by the archbishop, who led the JFK funeral ceremony.

    There is a copy of a letter from the Cardinal in the car's files, dated 1968, to Mrs Jeanne Klonel, stating: 'I pray that you may enjoy this possession for many more years and that it will carry you safely wherever you go'. He also apologised that it was just a brief letter, because he was still mourning the death of Robert F. Kennedy who had been buried only a few days earlier.

    Martin van der Zeeuw, H&H Classics agent in Holland who found the car, says: “Every now and then one comes across a car that is particularly interesting not just for its engineering or design or any other physical reason but because it casts a light onto our own human history. And this is one such car, its very close links with the remarkable, brilliant, tragic Kennedy family, makes it an object of particular and historic interest.”

    The car comes with a large file of its history including all the work relating to its restoration.

    In Time For Tax Season, Industry Quality Guru J.D. Power Talks About The 2016 Vehicle Dependability Study On “Auto Trends with JeffCars.com” This Saturday


    The latest finding from Experian Automotive revealed that consumers are turning to leasing and used vehicles as a cost-effective alternative to buying new. With the average amount financed for a new vehicle in the fourth quarter of 2015 rising $1,170 to $29,551, when compared to the same period in 2014, and the average monthly new vehicle payment topping off at $493, used cars continue to represent the most economical alternative for car buyers.

    In fact, used cars represented 63 percent of all vehicles financed, during the fourth quarter of 2015. The average amount consumers financed on a used vehicle during this time period was $18,850, bringing the average monthly used car payment to $359, which is $134 less a month than a new vehicle.

    And with this being tax refund season and used cars being the most economical finance option for payment sensitive car buyers, Renee Stephens, J. D. Power’s vice president of U. S. Auto Quality, visits “Auto Trends with JeffCars.com” this Saturday to discuss the latest used car dependability report. The recently released 2016 Dependability Vehicle Study measured the quality responses of 33,560 original owners of 2013 model year vehicles, after three years of ownership.

    During our discussion, Stephens identifies the most and least dependable makes and models from 2013. She also identifies the most bothersome concerns for consumers, as it relates to overall quality.     Buying a Car When You Don't Have Perfect Credit

    A good credit score will always help you qualify for the best interest rates when you are car shopping. But, if you don’t have perfect credit, how can you get the best deal possible on your next car purchase?


    Lisa Copeland, a pioneer in the field of automotive management for more than 25 years and Managing Partner of Fiat of Austin, the top Fiat retailer in North America since the brand’s return, says you can have a blemished credit report and still manage to buy a car at the best interest rate and at the best price.

    Copeland offers these tips for buying a car when you don’t have perfect credit:

    - Pre-shop your credit report. There are many free sites for you to use (such as www.annualcreditreport.com) so that you can make sure you walk into a car dealership as knowledgeable and prepared as possible.

    - Check with your local credit union before the car dealership. If your credit score is less than 660, many times the local credit unions have more discretionary power than car dealerships and can overlook minor blips on your credit report.

    - Stay within your budget. Don't let the car dealer talk you into a car that is above the maximum budget you set for yourself as that could be what got you into credit trouble in the first place.

    - Save money for a down payment. 20 percent down is desired by most banks if your credit is below a 620 FICO to receive a fair interest rate.

    - Consider a co-signer. Check with relatives before you go car shopping to see if they would be willing to co-sign with you. That could help your bargaining power.

    - Bring important documents with you to the car dealer. When it is time to discuss financing, the dealership wants to see proof of who you are, that you have a job and that you have a history of making monthly payments on time. Bring the most recent pay stub from your employer, a utility bill (gas, water, power), your driver’s license and at least three personal references.

    - Make timely payments. After you have made 12 consecutive on-time payments, it is possible to refinance your loan and possibly receive a lower rate – which can start you on your way to a better credit history.

    Volvo Cars Netherlands Uses Anachron Corporate E-Invoicing Platform to Digitize Workflows and Improve Financial Reporting

    SaaS Invoice Management Solution Saves Netherland Car Dealers 45,000 Man Hours Each Year


    Amsterdam, December 18, 2014 – Volvo Cars Netherlands has moved 100% of its invoices online, using Anachron’s corporate e-invoicing solution and services to streamline its order-to-cash processes. The company uses Anachron’s innovative technology to process between 135,000 and 150,000 electronic invoices each year, closing the books 1.5 days faster each month, increasing financial transparency and strengthening decision making. “We’re able to report back to Volvo Corporation at a higher, better, and faster level,” says Guus Buring, Finance Administrator, Volvo Cars Netherlands.

    Similarly, Anachron’s technology and digital workflow enable Volvo Car Netherlands’ 115 dealers to reduce accounting work by 30 hours per month, saving approximately 45,000 man hours every year so they can redeploy their staff on higher-level business processes.

    Volvo Car Netherlands previously used print and courier services to deliver invoices to its dealers throughout the country. While car dealers received invoices 24 hours after they were printed, processing, distributing, and paying of invoices taxed internal teams on both sides, creating high staffing and materials costs. “We invested significant man hours and costs in printing and distributing invoices,” says Buring. “We knew we could reduce costs and optimize document flows by adopting Anachron’s electronic invoicing platform.”

    With its white-labeled corporate e-invoicing solution, Volvo Car Netherlands can now provide the company’s dealers with invoices within four hours after they are created. Dealers are alerted via email that the invoices are online and available in both XML and PDF format. Dealers can download XML files directly into their ERP system, acquiring accurate data they can use to report monthly performance back to the corporate office faster, while the PDF versions of invoices are digitally signed to ensure their authenticity. In addition to streamlining processes for both biller and recipient, the corporate e-invoicing platform saves Volvo Cars Netherlands € 4000 annually in materials costs. “Volvo is a leader in sustainability, and electronic invoicing is an important step towards achieving a paperless office and protecting the environment,” says Buring.

    Anachron’s white-labeled platform is integrated into Volvo Cars Netherlands’ technology environment. Anachron has provided business services to map the XML file types to PDFs, while business partner Canon generates the XML and PDF files each month. The XML files are transmitted seamlessly from the company’s global headquarters to the Netherlands operation and its auto dealers, using the company’s IBM AS/400 computing system.

    Volvo Car Netherlands started with 10 different invoice types. The company’s experience with Anachron’s corporate e-invoicing solution has been so successful that the company has extended usage to include additional invoice types, including used cars, BPM, and recap invoices; dealer credits; and bonuses. Anachron also provides archiving services, storing the documents for seven years to meet The Netherlands’ regulatory requirements.

This year’s film festival also rolls around at the same time as Jalopnik’s tenth anniversary.

    World premiere sneak preview of APEX: THE STORY OF THE HYPERCAR, the upcoming documentary about the world's most extreme hypercars from Ferrari, Porsche, Pagani, Koenigsegg and more.

    There is a secret that car dealers don’t want you to know: there is a time to look and a time to buy. And, the best time to make a deal is always at the end of the month – preferably the last day of the month, in the evening.

    Dealerships base their sales on units and they want to report in every unit they can for each month. That’s why if both you and the salesman are tittering on the fence about how much you want to spend versus how much they want to sell you the vehicle. That process will go a little quicker, more in your favor the last day of the month. And the deals get better yet on the last day of the year. Want a new car? Dec. 31 is your target date for a great deal!
