Pat G’Orge-Walker
The First Lady of Gospel Comedy
“It is my intent to draw attention to God’s message of love through humor. If we can love God whom we have never seen, yet cannot love the ones we can see, then we have missed God’s entire message.”
Pat G'Orge-Walker
Pat G’Orge-Walker is in a league of her own. This accomplished Christian author and comedienne has an amazing mind and talent for turning her observations of church and black church life, in particular, into gems of sidesplitting humor.
Cruisin' On Desperation Pat G'Orge-Walker |
It is her own special gift from God that enables G’Orge-Walker to depict the often ridiculous antics of church folk. She does it without subverting the Good News or watering down the potency of its message.
Synopsis of Cruisin' On Desperation:
"The members of the Oh-Lawd-Why-Am-I-Still-Single church group have gathered again to complain about the slim pickings in the little town of Pelzer, South Carolina, and this time, they really have something to gripe about. Turns out that newcomer Birdie Tweet's new beau, Lyon Lipps, is also a con artist who has seduced every member of their group...and it's time to get a little payback. The girls decide to go on a cruise, and trick Lyon into going too, enlisting the help of Pelzer's most beautiful--and vicious--young woman, Ima Hellraiser. Now the group is riding a wave of bickering, betrayal, and unholy behavior, with plenty of laughs--and a few revelations--along the way...."

When I found that Scripture, I kept reading it over and over. It was as though God was speaking directly to me. For a while, it was as though it was the only Scripture in the Bible. I couldn't get the part out of my mind that said “…we are healed." It did not say “we will be healed” or “we can hope to be healed.” It said “…we are healed.” Healing is a done deal! Healing is accomplished! It is finished! With His stripes, we are healed!
Dr. Jim McIver
Jim McIver: husband, father, pastor, author, publisher, revivalist and conference speaker. Jim has been in ministry for over 33 years, preparing the way of the Lord and restoring paths to walk in. Jim is the founder and pastor of Revival Fires Fellowship in Allentown, Pennsylvania. Revival Fires Fellowship is a church that has a strong apostolic foundation and a powerful prophetic anointing, that preaches the uncompromised Word of God, and operates in the power of the Holy Spirit. We are known as a church that loves. The church is affectionately known as “The Happy Church” to its congregation. Dr. McIver resides in Allentown, Pennsylvania with his wife Mary and family.
HEALED! By His Stripes Dr. Jim McIver, Sr. |
While some might consider Missions work to be the tough part of ministry, Dr. McIver embraces and enjoys his work as a Missionary, particularly in the islands of the Caribbean. Dr. McIver has been invited to many countries of the world, but has felt led to focus his Missions efforts in places such as Jamaica, Haiti and Mexico. Most of his work is done in outlying areas of these countries where people are literally praying for God to send their next meal.
After only one trip into the mountains to a city called Matehuala (Mexico) -- Dr. McIver fell in love with the people. In just a few days, his team saw the fire of God fall afresh on the leaders and congregations that were visited. Again, there was children's ministry, women's meetings and powerful preaching that reached the hearts of many. Dr. McIver's plans include returning to other parts of Mexico and eventually overseeing churches in that region.
Marcus Wesson: Mysterious Web of Deception
by Julia Dudley Najieb
Najieb has done a remarkable job with the story of Marcus Wesson, a domineering patriarch accused of murdering nine of his children. DNA evidence proved that he fathered all nine children through incest. He also had lewd relationships with his nieces.
On March 12, 2004, Wesson was threatened by one of his nieces who'd come to retrieve her child. It was at that time he decided to sacrifice the children. Wesson had told members of the clan that it would be better if the children died, than to allow the government to take them.
Najieb interviewed family members and found that many of them support Wesson, still. Wesson suggested that his 25 year-old daughter, Sebhrenah, the oldest fatality, killed her seven siblings, her year-old son, and finally herself.
Najieb describes the grisly scene where the nine victims were found in a a heap in a bedroom corner, in the house at 761 Hammond Avenue. Each one had been shot in the eye. Coffins were discovered at the home causing police to suspect premeditation.
The web of deception has been unraveled as Marcus Wesson, was arrested for one of the largest and most unusual mass murders in San Joaquin Valley (Fresno, California).
"Excellent Reading"
Catharsis
by Minnie E. Miller
Catharsis contains three short stories, two of which are about vampires. In, "Run, Baby, Run!", Sarah becomes a vampire and avenges injustices in Augusta, Georgia, in 1854. The daughter of Tyler Hallett, a white plantation owner, and his slave, Ruth, Sarah and her mother escape, but her mother soon dies. Alone in the woods, Sarah meets Damon, a vampire, "who offers her the gift of eternal life."
Damon tells Sarah that there are plenty of vampires in the woods, and they feed on masters and overseers. After discovering she will get an education; have the strength to kill the men she hated from the plantation; and attain eternal youth, Sarah surrenders to Damon's world of the undead.
"An Unusual Love Affair," has all the flavor of a modern day romance, the only difference is this is a romantic attachment between a mortal and a vampire. Damon sees Ashley at an opera performance and is immediately drawn to her. Consequently, they connect telepathically and become close, often taking moonlit walks.
Damon confesses his love for Ashley and tells her that in order for them to be together she must become a vampire. Divorced and childless, Ashley feels she deserves more from life, so she agrees to leave the world of mortals. But, leaving won't be as easy as she imagined. She keeps one foot in the mortal's world while trapped in a vampire's existence.
Ashley hires an attorney to represent her in the purchase of a house. Angered by Damon and Ashley's behavior concerning the coven, other vampires appear one night and surround the house with tall torches. Damon and Ashley narrowly escape, but they do make it to the safety of Queen Mother Lilith.
"Connecting," is the contemporaneous love story of Don and Priscilla. Attracted to Don since the moment she meets him at her friend Rachel's, Priscilla is excited about going to Detroit, to spend a weekend with him. Thoughts of her failed marriage cause her apprehension, initially, but before long she is soaring above the clouds, replaying their lovemaking in her mind.
She asks Don about the two of them living together she and is saddened and embarrassed by his refusal. They continue their love affair, but they are never as close again. Still, there are times when Don appears, only to vanish into thin air, as a ghost. After a fatal heart attack Don comes to Priscilla and reveals the fact that his doctor had warned him of impending danger, and he wouldn't doom her to caring for an invalid.
Miller has the uncanny ability to write wonderful love stories, even if they are of another realm!

Massive Thoughts: Collection of Free Verse Poetry
by Mar Na Carter
Massive Thoughts: Collection of Free Verse Poetry, is an unusually good work which addresses a wide range of human emotions. Writing from her own experiences Carter invites the reader to examine her life. In the section titled, "Hurtful Thoughts," Carter speaks of a lost love with You Instilled. In Standing Still, she spins the tale of one who is stuck in time, remembering and reminiscing about a love who has moved on. Break, is a piece which deals with domestic violence. In it, a lady is so tired of being beaten that she hides a gun in the back of her pants. She shoots her abuser, calls the cops and watch them take him away.
Shawnette, is a sad offering about death. Carter asks questions on Theodicy (or the justification of God) which have plagued man since the beginning of time. Why did this happen? How could God do this? Shawnette will never again, "catch that matinee, or discuss the hottest fashion." In "Spiritual Thoughts," Carter talks of, Looking in the Wrong Places, referring to those who take their eyes off God to look at worldly things. Down Home Churching It Up, is so upbeat! It's about old time church services, complete with ladies in big hats, singing and crying. Readers can almost see the moaner's bench.
Other sections include, "Confused Thoughts," "Revengeful Thoughts," "Lovely Thoughts," and "Different Thoughts."
Insecurities
by Mar Na Carter
Clenched close to thine heart
Wrap it up in silver
Not in gold
Never release or be sold
Like leeches sucking esteem
From my pores
Like layers of skin Insinuating my gut
Even my face
Carrying in my tote bag
To be contained
Stones on these wings
Drowning, never to fly
My stumbling blocks
Designated rocks to climb
My dark days come from them
My dark nights comfort them
A heavy wet blanket
Extra weight packed
On my fragile back
Tons of pressure
To find acceptance
Eyes grow wide
As I walk by
Is it all in my mind
Is it my hair
Or my thighs
They control thoughts
Even my dreams
I play them as a symphony
People plant them
I nurture them
They are my trophies
My potholes
