"Once Is Never Enough"
By Margie Gosa Shivers
Unable to deal with the pain of two failed, childless marriages or annihilate the grief over the loss of the married woman he loved more than any other, Chicago homicide detective Lester Miller is leaving town. After considering all of his options, Lester decides to resign from a successful 14-year career with the police department and relocate to Virginia for a position with the F. B. I. His best laid plans are severely tested when a longtime friend, retired police commander, Sonny Newsome pays an unexpected visit to pull in a favor.
Once Is Never Enough Margie Gosa Shivers |
Sonny’s private eye firm is in financial jeopardy; he’s desperate and begs Lester to help get him out of this jam. Capitalizing on her romantic ties with a Chicago alderman, the dead woman’s mother cunningly comes forward with less than circumstantial evidence to Sonny’s detective agency. Caught in a vice between loyalty to a friend or leaving to maintain his own sanity, Lester must decide if he has time to investigate a four month old suicide death. Lester’s only lead from the victim’s mother is a shot in the dark.
Skeletons leap out of the closet, buried secrets are exposed and the dark pasts of friends are resurrected. Fate has dealt Cara Fleming another sour hand and tumbles her world upside-down, hurling her back into the grasp of confusion. Once again, Lester is called upon to rescue his friends out of chaos. Is Cara truly a virtuous wife? Is Alderman Bennett a respectable politician? Why is there such a financial screw-up with Sonny Newsome? Who’s really going to severe ties with their personal relationships? Will folk get a chance to pull their relationships together or will someone die trying?

BIO
Pat G’Orge-Walker
The First Lady of Gospel Comedy
Pat G’Orge (pronounced Gee-or-jay) - Walker is in a league of her own. This accomplished Christian author and comedienne has an amazing mind and talent for turning her observations of church and black church life, in particular, into gems of sidesplitting humor. It is her own special gift from God that enables G’Orge-Walker to depict the often ridiculous antics of church folk. She does it without subverting the Good News or watering down the potency of its message.
Pat G’Orge-Walker has led a colorful life professionally, to say the least. She is a former music industry veteran who has worked for several major labels including Epic, Def Jam and Columbia.
In the 1970s G’Orge-Walker began penning short stories featuring a main character that has an intimate and impacting encounter with God Almighty on the telephone, the now infamous Sister Betty. But it wasn’t until 1997 that she actually self-published the first in a series of books and that book – Sister Betty God is Calling! – is now being sold on Amazon.com as a collector’s item.
God called Sister Betty once more in 2003 and G’Orge-Walker released Sister Betty God’s Calling You, Again! (Kensington Books) thus marking another first for both the author and the publishing house that launched an inspirational department, a result of signing G’Orge-Walker. And G’Orge-Walker was thrust onto the scene in a rocket as a much sought after and highly acclaimed speaker and stand up comedian, Sister Betty, with her one-woman shows.
EXCERPT
....“Can we please get back to my plan?” Needy shouted. Her patience was about as thin as a piece of thread. “Think about it. If we wanted someone to wish they’d never been born and left without a shred of dignity as they drowned in payback hell, what would we do?”
A smile started to spread across Needy’s face as she saw the looks of understanding come forth, one by one, from the other women’s faces with the exception of Birdie. “Who do we know that is so cold-hearted that when she walks into a room the furnace kicks on automatically?”
“You wouldn’t,” Cill said without much conviction as a wide grin appeared on her face.
“I wanted that Lyon Lipps to suffer but do we have to go that far?” Petunia asked as she started to chuckle.
“Come on now, Needy. What that man did wasn’t all that bad to put him in that situation, was it?” Mother Blister had reached down and grabbed the cotton ball from the floor. She smashed it repeatedly in her hand as she started to giggle as her memory and some sanity returned. “Have mercy.”
“I don’t know if I want any part of this,” Birdie said as she nervously rubbed her hands together. “I don’t know if we, as praying women, should be involved in something that’s evil. After all, vengeance does belong to the Lord.”
“Well, I tell you what. When it’s all over we’ll pray for forgiveness,” Needy replied without conviction. “We’ll just make four reservations at the altar. After all, God knows our hearts, and He knows that we’re just weak sometime.”
“Aren’t you talking about premeditated sin?” Petunia asked as her smile started to fade.
“Connect the dots, Petunia,” Needy said, exasperated. “If it wasn’t planned or premeditated, would we need to make reservations at the altar for forgiveness?”
“Well, I don’t know about the rest of you but I haven’t used up my seventy-times-seventy quota yet. So, I guess I’m down with the plan.” Petunia went back to grinning; this time with a smile that threatened to split her face.
“Anybody that wants to back out should leave, now.” Needy looked at each of the others. Not one foot moved. The look on Needy’s face went up a notch past diabolical as she folded her arms over her double-D arsenal and continued. “So the plan to destroy Lyon Lipps is a go.”

Excerpt: Xavier Robert’s life seems to be coming together. He’s engaged to be married to an incredible woman, Summer Love, and he’s an aspiring rapper who recently signed a record deal. When Xavier was diagnosed with testicular cancer, rather than lean on his fiancée for strength, he called off the wedding. Leaving Summer feeling alone and rejected.
In an effort to move on with her life, Summer pours her energy into running her company, Spa Nevaeh. Ryan Kennedy, CEO of the record label that signed Xavier, begins to pursue Summer romantically. After learning about Ryan’s troubled past, he intrigues Summer, and they begin to date.
Once completing medical treatment for his condition, Xavier comes back into Summer’s life. When Summer breaks up with Ryan to be with Xavier, Ryan reveals a dark side of himself, which results in deadly consequences.
Reviews:
A true love store between man and woman & parents & child. This is a quick read suspenseful, fast paced, love story. Xavier is in love with Summer but his love runs so deep that he is willing to let her go to spare her his tragic situation. Ryan is in desperate need of love and searches out Summer to find it. As the tale is unspinning, you learn how all characters are connected without knowing it. You understand the love that binds family and the true love between soul mates. You also understand that decisions made early in life all have to come to light and even when things become tragic, it is all done in the name of love. Love also means forgiveness and wounds will have to be mended. This was a fast paced, straight to the point, in your face, not sure how it was going to unravel and hard to figure out before hand where the author was taken you. I really enjoyed it and think that Dwan Abrams did a great job.
Jackie “Jaibeem” McKinney ARAROJAX Literary Club
Author Dwan Abrams writes a delightful tale of romance, mystery, murder, family secrets and deception. She will have readers guessing as to where the story will take them next in her book “Only True Love Waits”.
She gets the reader involved with her characters early on by giving them lots of “life”. They are not cardboard afterthoughts of the author but fleshed out “real people” that you can sense and feel some emotions for. It makes the storyline and the plot work well. The dialogue is perfect and fits well with the movement of the action. Ms. Abrams obviously has a talent for writing and it shows.
The book will appeal to lovers of romance and mystery novels. I think women will love this book because the author gives us such strong female lead characters. The story is more than just a love story and deeper than just a romance novel. There are social issues that Abrams deals with like church attitudes, family values and even puts some light on the value of being a virgin.

Author Bio:
N.M. Shabazz is an erotic fantasy writer who is originally from Kansas City, Missouri. He holds one undergraduate and two graduate degrees. Jazz Was His Name, is his second published novel.
Excerpt:
He looked over at the caramel queen sitting on the couch across from him in his spacious Deep Ellum loft. She had long delicious legs that went up into a short, tight, form-fitting dress. He was almost sure she had no panties on underneath, as he could readily smell the wetness and anticipation pouring out to his host’s olfactory senses. He knew she wanted him inside her as much as he wanted her soul trapped in the reaches of his domain in hell. The only thing he had yet to do was seduce her as he had countless others and she would forever belong to him.
How should he start this, he wondered? Should he take her slowly in his arms? Caress her gently? Breathe on her neck? Kiss her with a deep, passionate kiss and suckle her supple bosoms and penetrate her? The rules of engagement stipulated however he started his seduction—even if mentally she had already given herself to him—his task was not complete until she physically gave all of herself to him. Until he penetrated her. Then she was all his. There was no doubt she wanted him. Right now. This very instant of this very second. Of that, he was sure. And since he was sure of that and since he had time—eternity—on his side he started to play with his food.
Synopsis:
Seduction is real and sometimes it only costs…a soul. In this erotic tale of intrigue and lies, Mark Stiles—at the bequest of the UpperRoom—ends his self-imposed exile and returns to Dallas, Texas, to investigate a supernatural phenomenon. Once there, he discovers an evil so great that it shakes Mark to his very core. Complicating matters is Melanie Lloyd, the beautiful, vivacious woman Mark falls head over heels for and the one his enemy would seduce and destroy.

“Vendetta Factor” excerpt
It was nearly midnight on Key Largo and the continuous party atmosphere showed no signs of slowing down. The evening sea breeze had cooled off the temperature somewhat as waves of deep blue water from the Gulf of Mexico rhythmically lapped up on the shore, leaving traces of white foam behind. Silent flashes of heat lightning several miles away lit up the sky, backlighting a handful of gray clouds while the red, blue and yellow neon lights of Cricket’s Yacht Club reflected on the water’s rippling surface at the inlet, offset by the steady flashing red light of a nearby conning tower. A lone white Flamingo stood in the shallow water near the outside deck, oblivious to the frivolity surrounding him while patiently waiting for any morsels of food that might come his way.

People entered the club to get a drink and enjoy the jazz being played by the quartet in the lounge while the real action took place in a private dining room. An amber haze of cigarette and cigar smoke hung in the room like a cloud. Two men sat at a green felt-topped table, each with a dwindling stack of poker chips in front of them while a dozen observers stood around, watching the action and the eight thousand dollars in the center of the table. The two players each held five cards and looked intently at each other, knowing that one of them would soon walk away from the table richer than when they had sat down two hours earlier.
Rock Moretti was hunched forward, both meaty forearms resting on the edge of the table. He was in his shirtsleeves, his silk paisley tie was loosened, and matching suspenders held up his ample trousers. His trademark Cuban cigar was wedged tightly in the corner of his mouth as he aggressively, impatiently puffed it.
Nick Seven, dressed in khaki slacks, a black cotton shirt with a palm tree print and tan loafers with no socks, leisurely rested his tall lean frame in his Captain’s chair while casually drawing a puff of smoke from one of Rock’s illegal imports. He stared at Moretti through lowered eyelids, a slight non-committal smile adorning his tanned face, waiting for his opponent to make a decision.
“Raise ya a thousand,” Moretti growled, tossing ten one-hundred dollar chips into the pot.
Nick paused a moment, never breaking eye contact as he removed the cigar from his mouth, exhaled a large billow of bluish-gray smoke then slowly rolled the cigar between his thumb and forefinger. “Call,” he said, matching the bet.
“Showtime, Nicky. Whattaya got?”
Nick hesitated again, the semi-smirk not leaving his face. “Two pair.”
Moretti chuckled softly as he laid his cards on the table. “Full house. Jacks over tens.” He continued chuckling in satisfaction as he began to rake in his winnings.
“Excuse me, Rock,” Nick interrupted. Moretti stopped and looked at Nick as he began laying his cards on the table one at a time. “When I said two pair, I meant a pair of red Kings and a pair of black Kings,” Nick said as he flipped the Ace of Hearts kicker onto the table.
The spectators began laughing softly as Moretti slumped back in his chair, his eyes taking on a look that would slice through steel. He glared at Nick for a moment before a smile began to dimple his pudgy face as he slowly nodded his head in appreciation. “Lucky Nick,” he said.

'Boxer of the Year' Hudson vs. GM by Elmo Hudson
1-4107-1941-3 (Softcover) 1-4107-1942-1 (Hardcover)
I was the first African American to win 'Boxer of the year' and the new Al VanNess appreciation trophy in Lansing, Michigan. I outboxed two state champions. The first opponent, who had seven knockouts in eight boxing matches, broke three of my ribs and dislocated my knee. I won six championships in the featherweight division and was nominated for the all-Army boxing team.
My greatest battle was fought in the courts against corporate giant General Motors. In nineteen hundred and eighty three, a white employee was given a floor inspector job in the twenty-three gage crib, which was off limits to African Americans. He had less seniority than I. General Motors maintained they went by experience, but then I had experience. After seventeen years, the case was settled out of court for an substantial amount of money.
