“Our focus is much more on silver rights than civil rights.” Those were the words last week of James Shabaka - co-founder of a busy new news and information website which has been making its presence known on the Internet in recent weeks. The National Black News Journal and Advocate - www.freewebs.com/blacknewsjournal - describes itself as “a digital newspaper designed to educate and bring economic up to American Blacks.”

The “digital newspaper” contains multiple sections including general news, African-American-related news items, business and income opportunities, self-improvement and motivation, social and political commentary and a health and fitness section. It drew over 11,000 visits from interested persons during its first week of operations from its base in Washington, D.C.

The National Black News Journal and Advocate has multiple news sources including reports from five correspondents spread across the nation. The website is the brainchild of businessman Shabaka and veteran journalist and news executive Robert Taylor who has been most of his professional life in broadcast radio.

New Website Targets Economic Uplift for African Americans
The founders are promising visitors to the website that their lives will be better off financially if they become consistently. Shabaka explained, “We are entering a post-civil rights era. The triumphs of Senator Barack Obama are testimony to that fact. This new era will be one of economic uplift and our website will play its role in the process.”
