On September 12, 2009, the historic city of Cambrindge, Massachusetts, will unveil the nation’s first Prince Hall memorial. Ted Clausen, who is an artist that resides in Cambridge, is the creator of the Prince Hall memorial, and this notable memorial is dedicated to the abolition of slavery. The Prince Hall memorial is a project that started back in 2005, by the Prince Hall memorial committee. Denise Simmons is the Mayor of Cambridge, and for just abou t 20 years now, she has found that the accomplishments and feats of Prince Hall, to be very important to the city’s overall image. In fact, some of Simmons reasoning for honoring the memory of Hall is because she has family members that struggled with slavery.
Simmons was quoted as saying: “I want people to remember that the fight for civil rights didn’t begin in the 1960’s, but in the 1700’s, and Prince Hall was an individual who had a direct impact on this movement and still does to this day.” This may also be so monumental for her because Prince Hall’s life and legacy symbolized leadership, bravery, and equality. In fact, there are many reasons why you could consider Hall’s life to be very inspirational. For many reasons, some people believe that Hall is one of the country’s unsung founding fathers.

So many African American’s have done great things for America, so there would be no reason for not classifying some of them as a founding father. However, Hall is one of the earliest fighters for equal rights. In his day and time, Hall seemed to have a strong-heart, and a fearless attitude, so every African American should admire hearing about Hall’s life and legacy. So many civil rights leaders have conquered great feats to pave the way for African Americans to have a better tomorrow.
Once, the Prince Hall memorial project is complete, and it is finally unveiled to the public, people who choose to visit the memorial may become inspired to achieve their dreams.
Who knows, Hall may have envisioned that African Americans would one day be, where there are today. Hall may have envisioned that African Americans would have world-class tennis players like Venus and Serena Williams, who have won many tennis championships. Or he may have envisioned that African Americans would be able to attend top-notch schools like Howard or Yale University. ; In any case, Hall may have not known that life would one day be this simple for African Americans.
Every African American that visits the memorial should honor and appreciate their ancestors for being so strong-minded.
They should value the many achievements their ancestors made. Even through trials and tribulations, their ancestors still had the heart and strength to never quit. Most importantly, they should appreciate the road that their ancestors traveled for them to have freedom and liberty in America.
