It could have been a conversation in the 1700’s. It could have been a conversation on inauguration day 2009. Those that really run things in America have always known a good thing when they see it, a way to take or maintain power in a racially divided America. When the captains of commerce in Colonial America needed cheap labor for the tobacco and cotton fields and someone to manage the slaves, they turned to those that they could manipulate through fear and loathing to help them maintain power. They turned to the lower class, the uneducated, those that would do their bidding and never know it wasn’t really in their best interest. Managing the poor is an age old enterprise. It is in the DNA of those that would rule the world.

United America
The election of Barack Obama was a godsend to those that would manage the poor and the more poor, the merrier. It is a “gimmee” for those that would put a match to the tinder box of hate and racism in an uneducated lower class that would do their bidding in the name of “I want my country back.” Rove and his ilk may not have said it out loud, but they knew the way back to power. “It’s the Negro, stupid!”

About Ken McGee
Ken McGee was a civil rights activist and political campaign consultant from the sixties through the eighties. He was a campaign manager, speech writer, and grass roots organizer for over one hundred campaigns as well as being on the college lecture circuit for many years. He lives in the woods of North Carolina with his wife Lee and a family of rescued canines. At age eighty, Ken says life is just beginning and thinks there is much yet to do. He is the author of: Eyes Shut Tight.

The above article is a take off on James Carville's "It's the economyi, stupid." which set the tone of the Democratic strategy in 1992 and is the mantra again this last year. No one, even the "liberal" media will touch the real issue this last year and what will be on to 2012. It is a cynical and destructive strategy on the part of the T-baggers and the GOP. It is so scary...like the sixties....1860's or 1960's?! the cancer of racism lies just below the surface in this country...the election of Obama didn't make it go away as you know...it was just laying there partaicularly after the election.ready to be inflamed...and they are doing it every day...take Limbaugh, Beck, O'Reilly, etc....just delivery boys for the folks that really run our country. Do I sound like a commie? No, I am not. It seems to me I am seeing the very same faces, the same people I saw in the sixties...ugly, hateful, and ignited once more. "Orgainzing the base" is the oldest of strategies...an inflamed base goes to the polls. This is what they are doing....and no one really talks about it.
