ATLANTA – November 25, 2014 – UP presents the UP Original Movie Marry US For Christmas (#MarryUSForChristmas), a romantic, ‘tis-the-season-to-get-married, mother-daughter comedy starring Malinda Williams (“Soul Food,” “exhale”), Karon Riley (UP’s Where’s the Love?, 35 and Ticking), Victoria Rowell (What Love Will Make You Do, “The Young and the Restless”) and Marques Houston (UP’s The Love Letter, “Sister, Sister”) as the Christmas couples.
     MARRY US FOR CHRISTMAS

A sequel to last year’s popular Marry Me For Christmas, the film also reunites Rowell with her long-time “Young and the Restless” co-star Kristoff St. John (20 Ft Below: The Darkness Descending, “Family Time”). The UP Original Movie Marry US For Christmas will make its world television premiere on UP on Sunday, December 7 at 7:00 p.m. EST / 6:00 p.m. PST.

Produced by Atlanta-based Swirl Films, the film is directed by first-time director Drue Powell from a screenplay by executive producer Rhonda Freeman-Baraka (UP’s Marry Me For Christmas and Trinity Goodheart). The ensemble also includes returning cast members GregAlan Williams (“Necessary Roughness,” “The West Wing”), Carl Payne (“For Richer Or Poorer,” “The Game”), Chrystale Wilson (Fade Away, “For Richer or Poorer”), DeEtta West (UP’s Lyfe’s Journey and My Other Mother) and Dawn Halfkenny (UP’s My Dad’s A Soccer Mom, “Let’s Stay Together”).

In the sequel to last year’s popular UP Original Movie Marry Me For Christmas, it’s a year after Marci Jewel (Malinda Williams) and Blair Kirkland (Karon Riley) declared their love for each other and decided to tie the knot. But as the big day approaches, Marci is so consumed with work that she’s had no time to plan her wedding. To make matters worse, she may have to team up with former assistant/fake fiancé Adam to win a project she’s been vying for – a little tidbit Marci has held back from Blair. But Blair, as it turns out, has a secret of his own. Thanks to years of doing pro bono work for financially-strapped clients, he quickly is running out of cash and might have to accept an offer to work for his longtime nemesis, Marci’s manipulative cousin Preston (Carl Payne).

Meanwhile, Marci’s mother Stephanie Chandler Jewel (Victoria Rowell) is making some rather bold moves of her own with her sexy salsa teacher, Antonio Simpson (Marques Houston), who is more than a little smitten with her — and about 20 years her junior. Will there be a wedding for Christmas? Better yet – whose wedding will it be? Naturally, the festivities wouldn’t be complete without family, including Marci’s Uncle Donald (GregAlan Williams), Aunt Myra (DeEtta West), Aunt Elizabeth (Chrystale Wilson), Charlene (Dawn Halfkenny) and Antonio’s uncle Lawrence Simpson (Kristoff St. John).

     MARRY US FOR CHRISTMAS

“What’s more exciting than Christmas – getting married at Christmas, of course!,” said Sophia Kelley, svp, programming, UP. “We are thrilled to continue the high-spirted holiday adventures of Marci and her mother Stephanie in this year’s romantic, fun-filled sequel Marry US For Christmas. This Noel, the question is -- who will make it down aisle first?”

With over 8 years of experience in the film and television industry, Crystle has churned out a body of work that has garnered notable attention, awards and accolades. In two days, she led a team of filmmakers to victory during the 48 Hour Film Festival Atlanta Competition by directing Standing Reign, a film within a film about a black actress standing up for her self worth.

The short was later chosen for distribution on the “Best of 48” DVD which featured only 15 selections from thousands of entries worldwide. The next year, Crystle was selected as 1 of 4 filmmakers, nationwide, to compete in the Chase Legacy Film Challenge, launched by blackfilm.com. During this challenge, Crystle filmed “Next Door’s Next”, a story about a young couple who moves in next door to their older selves. She was awarded the HBO Filmmaker Award and a grant from Kodak, for writing and directing this film. Later that year, she Co-Directed the award winning short Before I Wake, which was awarded ‘Best Film’ by The Doorpost Film Project, along with the much-anticipated $100k Grand Prize.

Soon, Crystle’s persistence and creativity caught the attention of actor/artist Idris Elba (The Wire), which led to a creative collaboration on Elba’s first music video, Private Garden, lensed in picturesque San Juan, Puerto Rico. In the meantime, an additional short film that Roberson scribed and directed called The Black Cage, an experimental film about a man who wakes up and discovers he’s no longer free, was airing nationally on BET Networks. The Black Cage was 1 of 7 Top Finalists in the highly selective Lens on Talent Competition.

Most recently, Crystle travelled to the South of France to represent the newest addition to her filmography. Echoes, a film about love and its aftermath, was selected and screened in the esteemed Festival de Cannes - Court Métrage: Short Film Corner this past May. Echoes was also selected as 1 of 8 films worldwide to compete in the Diversity in Cannes: Short Film Showcase. The film was edited from chosen scenes of her debut feature film, Echo at 11 Oak Drive, which was funded largely by an ambitious online crowd-funding campaign, and filmed in Atlanta, Georgia. Roberson’s premiere feature tells the story of a Frenchman who moves into a century-old house and, through his writing, unveils the peculiar characters that once lived there. The independent film stars Rockmond Dunbar (Prison Break, Sons of Anarchy) and is anticipating a 2014 non-theatrical release. Crystle currently resides in Los Angeles California where she works as a fulltime filmmaker.

    · Crown Heights – 5 Min. – Set during the racially charged Crown Heights, New York riots of 1991, “Crown Heights” is the story of a young man, Elijah, African-American, who is confronted with a split-second decision whether or not to save the life of an innocent Hasidic Jewish man who’s out alone in the racially mixed neighborhood. Elijah, the sole grocery store bagger in his local neighborhood bodega is fired up, angry about the Crown Heights riots, which occurred because a Hasidic Jewish motorcade struck and killed an African-American boy who was playing along the sidewalk at night. Racial tensions soon flare up throughout the neighborhood, leading two young men into Elijah’s store that night. When they spot Gary, a lone Hasidic Jewish customer, they nod to Elijah to lure the man outside to attack him while he’s carrying his bags to the car. Amidst the anger and anxiety, Elijah has to decide whether or not to side with his race, and friends, and attack the man, or side with the man, and risk getting attacked himself by the local riff-raff. Elijah’s decision, though a very short and quick one, has endless ramifications for himself, his neighborhood, the potential perpetrators, and victim.

    "Wayward: The Prodigal Son"

     Wayward: The Prodigal Son

SPRINGVILLE, Utah, (October 27, 2014) - The year of faith-based films continues with the upcoming release of "Wayward: The Prodigal Son" – based on the popular biblical parable of a lost child returning home. The film will arrive in U.S movie theaters on November 7th.

The film tells the story of Tyler McMillan, a pampered rich kid who gets it all and almost loses everything, including his own life. Tyler's father's last wish is for his rebellious son to return to him once again. Rob Diamond – who wrote, directed, and produced the inspirational film – discussed why the "Prodigal Son" parable resonated with him.

"I made 'Wayward: The Prodigal Son' because the Biblical story has always touched a deep place in my soul," he said. "I have been on the receiving end of forgiveness many times for the mistakes I've made in my life. It's the perfect story of love, redemption and forgiveness."

The release of "Wayward" follows the success of faith-based films such as "Heaven is for Real," "Son of God," and "God's Not Dead." Diamond said that he created "Wayward" for "my Maker first and foremost," but that the film will touch a broad audience.

Cedar Fort Entertainment has chosen to use a portion of the promotional budget for "Wayward" to raise awareness of resources available for at-risk youth and addiction recovery options. Billboards and posters direct the public to HeStrays.com.

"Of course, despite a parent's best efforts," Spencer Harden adds, "many children fall into life-threatening behavior patterns every year, much to their own despair and that of their loved ones. In addition to an uplifting and entertaining film, we hope to offer hope and resources to the lost and struggling and their families."

    ABOUT CEDAR FORT, INC.

Tyler James Williams: "Not All Of Us Are This Hip Hop Stereotype Of What's Portrayed"

    Tyler James Williams

‘Dear White People’ star Tyler James Williams stopped by the Dish Nation studio in Atlanta to talk about his new comedy, what he has in common with Eddie Murphy, and his thoughts on actress Raven-Symone’s controversial comments to Oprah Winfrey.

“‘Dear White People’ is about four black comic students in an Ivy League school who are dealing with identity issues of, what does it mean to be black in 2014,” Williams explained.

“We’re dealing with this new situation in America where we’ve never been before. There’s a black president, so there’s conversation about if race is still an issue, and of course it’s still an issue, but in what ways and what shapes of identity are there, and it talks a lot about that.”

Here’s what Williams wishes white people knew about black people:

“Not all of us are this hip hop stereotype of what’s portrayed. It kind of gets brought up in the film…I don’t just listen to hip hop. I am into Robert Altman movies and I do appreciate Mumford and Sons. We’re not all one thing! We’re different. There is diversity,” the 22-year-old actor said.

“Especially portrayed in the media and all of that, that we all have to be this one kind of thing and that’s just stereotypes and when people get hurt.”

Someone who recently tried to distance herself from that stereotype was former “The Cosby Show” actress Raven-Symone, who got a lot of heat from saying she’s not African American, just American, so Williams explained what he thinks she meant by it.

“I don’t know why everybody freaked out about that. I really don’t get it. When I think about, ‘Who am I?’ It’s not the top of my list do I go, ‘black.’ Obviously yes, that’s who I am, these are my people and this is my heritage, but who I am as a person doesn’t necessarily boil down to what my genetic makeup is,” he said.

“I think everybody thought that she was trying to say she just wasn’t black, or didn’t want to be, or didn’t want to be associated…I don’t think that’s what she was saying. I think she was saying I’m an individual outside of what came together to make me genetically.”

And genetically, the general public seems to think Williams looks like actor Orlando Jones and Beyonce’s sister, Solange!

“I am not the biological child of Orlando,” he joked. “I am not Solange, I don’t fight that well,” he laughed, poking fun at the elevator surveillance footage in which Solange physically attacked Bey’s husband, Jay-Z.

“I get that quite a bit,” he admitted though of being compared to comedian Eddie Murphy. “Especially because not many people know but when I did ‘Chris’ most of my studying was ‘Delirious’ and ‘Raw’ of Eddie’s… When I was auditioning for colleges for drama school…was his whole bit from ‘Delirious’ at the BBQ, I’m playing five different people.”

But what about Murphy’s famous laugh?

“I can’t do the laugh! It’s so specific and I hate doing a bad version of it. I would like to get it down first,” Williams said. “I’ve been working on it for years and when I do, I will come back and I’ll do it.”

Williams made his mark starring as Chris for five years on ‘Everybody Hates Chris’ and says the cast remains like family to him.

“Whenever you’ve had a moment in time, and these special moments in time with a group of people, there’s a certain feeling you get when you’re around those people,” he said.

“When we see each other it’s like family. We have these moments that click. We’re family with each other. But the good thing is we’re all busy, so we can’t see each other a lot.”

As for rumors circulating that he and actress Tessa Thompson are an item, Williams said, “No. I love Tessa. Tessa’s somebody I’ve wanted to work with forever, and we’re really close and we’re good friends, but no. Absolutely not,” he dished.

“I can officially confirm, there’s nothing.”

‘Dear White People’ is scheduled for limited release on Oct. 17, and will be released nation-wide on Oct. 24.

Nick Cannon Says ‘The Wound Is Too Fresh’ On Split With Mariah Carey

Nick Cannon Says ‘The Wound Is Too Fresh’ On Split With Mariah Carey

Nick Cannon talked with the Rickey Smiley Morning Show on Tuesday in Atlanta to dish about his recent split with wife Mariah Carey, his hit show ‘Real Husbands of Hollywood’ and rumors about an upcoming Richard Pryor biopic — and showed love to Dish Nation saying, “I’m a fan!” Just a month and a half after publicly confirming his separation from Carey, Cannon says he no plans to move on in another relationship any time soon.

“I think the wound’s too fresh to even be thinking about that right now,” he told Dish Nation’s Rickey Smiley.

“That’s someone that I’m managing,” Cannon said of Amber Rose, the model and recording artist he was romantically linked to in reports in the wake of his split from Carey.

“I’m really excited about everything she’s about to do in her career and building her brand. I manage a lot of people, but obviously that’s one, because she’s in the news as well and kind of a public figure, people just kind of latched onto that as the media does at times.”

Reports swirled in August that Cannon lost the lead role in an upcoming biopic on Richard Pryor to actor Mike Epps, but he claims the movie isn’t even a go yet.

“This is how this game goes. That’s a project that’s been around for decades and honestly, it’s still not even green-lit at this point,” he said.

In August, ‘The Butler’ director Lee Daniels posted a photo on social media with himself, Oprah Winfrey and Epps with the caption, “And we’re off… Get ready y’all for #richardpryor @eppsie @oprah,” but Cannon claims Daniels hasn’t officially signed onto the project yet.

“It’s certain names and certain people, if a person is gonna do it, it kind of fast tracks the project but now it’s kind of at a stalemate because even Lee Daniels hasn’t even really decided if he’s going to direct it yet.”

Cannon stays busy though with a third season of ‘Real Husbands of Hollywood’ in the works and Season 10 auditions gearing up for ‘America’s Got Talent.’

“You’re gonna see, the storylines are ridiculous. This season I’m running for the Mayor of Beverly Hills, so you’re gonna see a little bit of that,” he dished on BET’s ‘Real Husbands of Hollywood.’

“You gonna see Kevin try to kill me this season, so it’s gonna get crazy.”

Also crazy is the camaraderie Cannon says he has with the ‘AGT’ judges. Just don’t ask him to save one on a sinking ship!

“That’s a tough one. It’s gonna be somewhere between Howard Stern and Heidi Klum. I’d save Howard just for his legacy, because he’s probably the one that’s probably gonna be the most entertaining to me,” Cannon said.

“But then Heidi, you gotta save a woman! Just in case it all goes down, you gotta make sure you have somebody you can spend some quality time with!”

It’s been 12 years since one of Cannon’s most famous projects ‘Drumline’ came out and the father-of-two is now producing a followup to the flick — and he’ll be making a cameo.

“One thing when I started producing this project, and I wanted to bring it to television, I didn’t want to focus on my old storyline…I can’t come back and just still be drumming, so I wanted to focus on a new storyline and I focused on a female storyline, and wanted it to be about woman empowerment in the sense where it’s about a young lady trying to join the line,” Cannon said.

“I come back just for a quick cameo… My character Devon [Miles] kinda turns into a super music producer type of guy that comes back and pays respect for a couple of scenes.”

    THE MUSIC IN ME

UPLIFTING MUSICAL DRAMA FILMING IN SUDBURY, ONTARIO, CANADA

    Features New, Original Song “Promises,”
Written and Performed by Debbie Gibson

     THE MUSIC IN ME

ATLANTA – October 7, 2014 – Production is underway in Sudbury, Ontario, Canada on the UP Original Movie The Music In Me, an uplifting musical drama about a small town girl who had given up her dreams of musically performing only to rediscover her joy of singing/songwriting as an adult through her work with a failing church choir. Stars Debbie Gibson (Mega Shark vs. Mecha Shark, “3 Billion and Counting”) and Gloria Reuben (Lincoln, “E.R.”) will both sing and perform with the choir in the film. Gibson has written and performs the film’s original song, “Promises.” The Music In Me will make its world television premiere on UP in early 2015.

The film is executive produced by Stanton W. Kamens and Roma Roth in association with UP Entertainment, Reel World Management Productions and Stanton W. Kamens Entertainment, and produced by Roma Roth in Sudbury with the participation of the Northern Ontario Heritage Fund (NOHFC). John Bradshaw (Catch a Christmas Star, Come Dance with Me) directs the movie, and Bryar Freed-Golden (UP’s Love Finds You In Sugarcreek) wrote the script. The ensemble cast also includes Antonio Cupo (American Mary, “Bomb Girls”), Amy Forsyth (“Defiance,” “Reign”), Cedric Smith (“Copper,” “Avonlea”), Marcia Bennett (Serendipity, “Happy Town”), Kim Roberts (“The Strain,” “Lucky 7”) and Mike Lobel (“Degrassi: The Next Generation,” “Really Me”).

Having traded in her dreams of becoming a professional singer to care for her aging parents and their neighborhood hardware store, Jessica (Debbie Gibson) is asked to step in as choir director for a failing church as they prepare for their the big centennial celebration. When she arrives, Jessica is shocked to discover that the choir can't sing and that the Church Deaconess (Gloria Reuben) is betting on her to fail. During the process, Jessica builds a friendship with church handyman Ben (Antonio Cupo) and is challenged by choir member and teen runaway Alice (Amy Forsyth). Through their friendship and her work with the choir, she rekindles her love of music and finally finishes the song she's been struggling with for many years – ultimately finding love and the music career she's always dreamed of pursuing.

“The Music In Me is a terrific story about a woman dusting off a dream, not knowing that this musical journey she embarks on with a broken choir will lead to all sorts of joy in her life,” said Barbara Fisher, svp, original programming, UP. “We are thrilled to have the multi-talented, award-winning, world record-setting Debbie Gibson as the lead, joined by actress/singer/social activist Gloria Ruben, who was once a backup singer for Tina Turner.”

Gibson adds, “I am so excited to be a part of this uplifting and inspirational movie! Working on the music from the character’s point of view was an amazing process, and the producers as well as UP network execs guided the process, which brought out new colors musically. I’m so impressed by the cast assembled and feel this movie will elevate people’s consciousness while being both heartwarming and entertaining!”

UP presents The Music In Me, an UP Entertainment production in association with Reel World Management Productions and Stanton W. Kamens Entertainment. Executive Producers are Stanton W. Kamens and Roma Roth. Producer is Roma Roth. Written by Bryar Freed-Golden. Directed by John Bradshaw. Composer Michael Plowman.

    YOU’RE NOT YOU

Release Date: In theatres and On Demand October 10, 2014
    Studio: eOne Films US
    Director: George C. Wolfe

Cast: Hilary Swank, Emmy Rossum, Josh Duhamel, Marcia Gay Harden, Jason Ritter, Ali Larter and Loretta Devine

    Synopsis:
Academy Award® winner Hilary Swank (Conviction, Million Dollar Baby) and rapidly rising star Emmy Rossum (“Shameless”) intertwine in You’re Not You, a surprisingly funny, defiantly unsentimental and starkly moving portrait of a high-stakes friendship between two women – one literally in need of a voice, the other discovering the full power of hers.

Kate (Swank) is a suave, successful classical pianist just diagnosed with ALS (commonly known as Lou Gehrig’s Disease). Bec (Rossum) is a brash college student and would-be rock singer who can barely keep her wildly chaotic affairs, romantic and otherwise, together. Yet, when Bec takes a job assisting Kate, just as Kate’s marriage to Evan (Josh Duhamel) hits the skids, both women come to rely on what becomes an unconventional, sometimes confrontational and fiercely honest bond. As meticulous, willful Kate begins to rub off on whirlwind, spontaneous Bec – and vice versa – both women find themselves facing down regrets, exploring new territory and expanding their ideas of who they want to be.

Two-time Tony Award winner and theatre legend George C. Wolfe directs this powerful portrait of a transformational friendship with a cast that includes Emmy Award winner Loretta Devine, Ernie Hudson, Frances Fisher, Oscar® winner Marcia Gay Harden, Emmy nominee Jason Ritter, Julian McMahon, Ali Larter and Andrea Savage.
