    BRAVETOWN

BRAVETOWN stars Lucas Till, Josh Duhamel and Laura Dern

eOne will release BRAVETOWN theatrically nationwide in select theaters and on VOD May 8th

     BRAVETOWN

    SYNOPSIS

Josh Harvest, a hardened New York City teen from a broken home – and quietly one of the country’s top dance club DJs and remixers – is sentenced to counseling for a minor drug infraction, along with an extended stay with his estranged father, who lives in a small town in North Dakota. He is slow to warm to his new environment, a town best-known for sending its young off to war, many of whom never return. But when Josh is asked to help out the last-place dance team as they vie for the state competition title, his rough exterior begins to soften. As his relationships emerge with both the team’s captain, Mary, and his therapist, each of whom have lost someone special to war, it forces all three to begin to face and heal their pasts.

Director Daniel Duran provides a strong mixture of rich dramatic performances and hot dance numbers in his breakout feature release. Lucas Till (“X-Men”) stars as the young DJ, Josh, alongside Kherington Payne (“Fame”, "And So You Think You Can Dance"), who, as Mary, leads a troupe of energetic fellow students through some amazing dance paces, creatively choreographed by Brian Friedman (“The X-Factor”). Josh Duhamel ("Transformers") co-stars as Alex Weller, Josh’s laid back, but subtly probing, therapist with his own dark secrets. Laura Dern ("Wild") gives a unique performance as Mary’s mother, Annie, who suffers from her own mental illness from the loss of her oldest son, Mary’s brother, Robert, during his military service. The film is beautifully photographed by cinematographer Angel Barroeta (“Rock of Ages”), capturing both exciting dance sequences and the peaceful beauty of the North Dakota landscape.

    WHITE GOD: Now in Theatres

     WHITE GOD

     WHITE GOD

     WHITE GOD

SYNOPSIS A cautionary tale about our 'superiority' over 'lesser beasts' ... A seemingly harmless measure that aims to make dog-breeding more disciplined in Hungary kicks off a series of extraordinary events. Favoring pedigree and purebred dogs, the new regulation places a severe tax on those who own mixed breeds -- so owners begin to dump their mongrels and shelters quickly become overcrowded.

This new set of laws has real consequences, especially for 13-year-old Lili (Zsófia Psotta), who's already a pawn in her parent's bitter divorce. Lili can't understand why her dog, Hagen, is now somehow less than other dogs, nor can she comprehend why her father (Sándor Zsóstár) won't simply pay the tax on her beloved companion. Instead, her father, in a fit of rage, abandons Hagen on the streets. Heartbroken, Lili hates her father for making her betray her beloved companion; still innocently believing that love can win over any difficulty, Lili sets out to find her dog and save him.

Meanwhile, Hagen, too, searches desperately to return home to Lili; struggling to survive, Hagen soon learns that not everyone is a dog’s best friend. Wandering the streets, the former housepet falls into a series of dangerous situations. He must flee dogcatchers; he is exploited by a crafty beggar; he even becomes the prisoner of a dog fighting trainer. Hagen is soon back on the street where he joins a pack of stray dogs.

Weeks later, Lili begins to accept the fact that she may never be reunited with Hagen. She is bitterly disappointed, but she tries to focus on preparations for her orchestra’s annual concert so she can reconcile with her father and enjoy the life of a normal teenager.

When Hagen is captured and sent to the pound, his future seems more dismal than ever. He and the other dogs seize an opportunity to escape and revolt against mankind. Their revenge will be merciless -- and courageous Lili may be the only person who can halt this unexpected war between man and dog.

NEW DOCUMENTARY ON 2012 RAPE IN DELHI BLOCKED IN INDIA

    INDIA’S DAUGHTER

    A film by Leslee Udwin

    INDIAS DAUGHTER

Women Make Movies 2015 New Release INDIA’S DAUGHTER is making international headlines in a quickly and still unfolding series of events. INDIA’S DAUGHTER is the powerful story of the 2012 brutal gang rape on a Delhi bus of a 23 year old medical student, who later died from her injuries. In 2012, it made international headlines and ignited protests by women in India and around the world. This week, in an unprecedented move and just in advance of the Indian government banning the film, the BBC changed its original broadcast date later in March to last night. After the broadcast, the film went viral and was posted widely on social media. Admidst a whirlwind of controversy and upheaval there has been a spate of legal action: the Indian home minister has served legal notice on the BBC, the victim’s parents are now considering suing the rapist, and the Indian government has pressured telecom operators to take the film down.

BAFTA winning filmmaker Leslee Udwin, herself a victim of rape, went to India inspired by the protests against sexual assault, saying in an interview with NDTV, “I made this film in gratitude to the women and men who took to the streets to demonstrate for gender inequality. I myself was raped. Men rape globally not just in India.” With an all Indian crew, Udwin got exclusive, first time on camera interviews with the rapists and defense attorneys, none of whom express remorse. The defense attorney goes even further, stating that “immodest” women deserve what happens to them. Today this story makes headlines again: Indian authorities have blocked the broadcast and screening of INDIA'S DAUGHTER in India, causing a whirlwind of controversy and upheaval. Bringing international attention to the film's story, publications such as the Guardian, New York Times, BBC, Washington Post, CNN and Al Jazeera have been quick to report as this situation unfolds.

According to Debra Zimmerman, Executive Director of WMM, “Rape is endemic worldwide, including here in the U.S. INDIA’S DAUGHTER is an important film that needs to be seen here and everywhere in the world.” As the victim’s father said in an interview in the Economic Times, ‘The documentary holds a mirror up to society. How will we protect our daughters if we don’t tell our sons what is wrong and should not be done?’”

To mark the 20th anniversary of the UN Fourth World Conference on Women and the 59th session of the Commission on the Status of Women, Women Make Movies, Vital Voices and Plan International will host a screening in NYC on International Women’s Day. Director Leslee Udwin, Actress Meryl Streep and Plan Global Ambassador and Associate Producer Freida Pinto will be in attendance for discussion after the film.

INDIA’S DAUGHTER will be shown in more than 15 countries around the world on March 8th, Women’s International Day, and the following weeks. The INDIA'S DAUGHTER DVD will be available from WMM this month. The film is slated to broadcast on PBS in the United States in the coming months.

Meet the Beatles! Just one month after they exploded onto the U.S. scene with their Ed Sullivan Show appearance, John, Paul, George, and Ringo began working on a project that would bring their revolutionary talent to the big screen. A HARD DAY'S NIGHT, in which the bandmates play cheeky comic versions of themselves, captured the astonishing moment when they officially became the singular, irreverent idols of their generation and changed music forever. Directed with raucous, anything-goes verve by Richard Lester and featuring a slew of iconic pop anthems, including the title track, “Can’t Buy Me Love,” “I Should Have Known Better,” and “If I Fell,” A HARD DAY'S NIGHT, which reconceived the movie musical and exerted an incalculable influence on the music video, is one of the most deliriously entertaining movies of all time.

Jake T. Austin Stars in Grantham & Rose, Premiering February 10

MarVista Digital Entertainment (MVDE) kicks off the month of February with the coming-of-age road tripper GRANTHAM & ROSE, starring Jake T. Austin (Wizards of Waverly Place, The Fosters), Golden Globe Award-nominee Marla Gibbs (Tyler Perry’s Madea’s Witness Protection, The Jeffersons), and Gotham Award-winner Tessa Thompson (Creed, Selma, Dear White People).

Putting a fresh new twist on the pillar of American cinema–the road trip movie–MVDE’S GRANTHAM & ROSE explores the unique relationship between a tough teen in incarceration and the feisty, elderly volunteer determined to connect with him. Tessa Thompson plays Wallis, a wayward girl with her own set of issues that joins the unexpected traveling companions and presents a potential love interest for Grantham. “When I teach chess, I always get the kids to identify themselves as the king. One thing about being the king: You are the thinker – male or female…Because when the game was first explained to me, and I really had to accept all of the blame, and I couldn’t really blame anybody else. I had kind of ran out of excuses. And when I accepted my kingship for all the moves I made, then my life changed dramatically. Life of a King is the life of a thinker.”

    - Eugene Brown

    LIFE OF A KING

EUGENE BROWN (FOUNDER AND CEO OF THE BIG CHAIR CHESS CLUB)

Eugene Brown uses chess to teach inner-city children a lesson of life he learned the hard way: "To Always Think Before You Move." This has become the mantra for Eugene Brown's philosophy, and a way of life. He knows whereof he speaks.

Brown started playing chess while he was incarcerated in federal prison following a botched bank robbery. Chess was a good distraction from the dreary routine and depressing world around him.

Born in Washington, D.C., Brown is 60 years old. He attended the inner city, District of Columbia Public Schools, where he was diagnosed as requiring social adjustment classes. His anti-social behavioral lead to early brushes with Juvenile Justice Law Enforcement, resulting in early incarceration at correctional youth institutions as a teen, and prison time as an adult.

Today, Brown, the Founder and CEO of The Big Chair Chess Club (bigchairchessclub.org) is a father, grandfather, a real estate agent, and mentor to D.C. youths who stop by The Deanwood Chess House (located at 4322 Sheriff Road, NE), as a way to avoid the "Big House" later in life. Brown believes that having 6 and 7 year olds learn to play chess as one way to set them on the right course.

The Big Chair Chess Club, Inc. was founded and formed to reach the un-reachable, teach the un-teachable and instilling the motto, "To Always Think Before You Move." This is the core mission of The Big Chair Chess Club, Inc. at the Deanwood Branch located in the nation’s capital. The Organization teaches chess to inner-city children and adults not just as a board game, but also as an application to life skills, such as improving one's concentration and self-discipline.
