An engrossing tale of friendship, family, hard times, and loyalty. Wooten has given the world a timeless classic! Sadie Miller is a young girl of color who works as a domestic for a white family, in the Mississippi Delta. When Molly, her employer’s daughter, confides that she is being raped by her step-father, Sadie plans a course of action which involves a dangerous trip across dark roads.

This story of cotton farmers and plantations is a must read. We here at Blackrefer.com requested an interview with Mr. Wooten, please read it below:

DT:  Sadie's Row was a very delightful read. Where did you get the idea?
DW: The Idea for Sadie's Row started with people I knew. Black and white women struggling in a society that is designed for men. Also there are many untold stories of what these women have gone through and endured without anyone to speak to about their experiences.

DT: The description was beyond compare, it was like reading a first-hand account. Do you have any ties to the Mississippi Delta?
DW: That is always a question that comes up. Besides my affinity for the Delta and legendary blues singers Robert Johnson, Son House, Muddy Waters and Leadbelly, I'll just keep everyone guessing.

Sadie’s Row

DT:  How long have you been writing? What inspires you? Who are some of your favorite authors?
DW: :  Sadie's Row was my first novel. I have written a dozen short stories but Sadie's Row was something special to me.I read Roots and after reading Native Son and Black Boy by Richard Wright I was hooked. Richard Wright is my favorite author and my inspiration.

DT:  How successful has Sadie's Row been thus far?
DW: Sales for Sadie's Row have been moderate but I have a strong fanbase that would love to see the book made into a movie or independent film.

DT:  What's next for DeCarlton Wooten?
DW: A new novel is in the works. The new novel deals with society, racial conflict and faith in God and is set during the Great Depression. I am also looking for an agent to represent future work.

DT: Do you have any words of wisdom for new or aspiring writers?
DW: Whatever you do never stop writing! Always write, no matter what. I believe writers should write, no matter the subject matter. Writers should express themselves, you never know your words may reach the world.

DT: We appreciate the fact that you granted us this interview and we surely pray for your continued success!
