DT: Welcome Gloria and thanks for taking time to visit with us.
GLV: Thanks for having me Delores.

DT: Tell us what motivated you to pen “Lessons Learned on My Way Home”
GLV: I believe each of us is entrusted with the answer to someone else’s “issue.” Having walked many paths and overcome many obstacles in my life, I felt compelled to share the journey. “Lessons” was motivated by my trials and triumphs

and by my desire to give hope to others as they embark upon their own valleys and mountain top experiences.

DT: Can you share a little of the process that you went through in writing “Lessons Learned on My Way Home”
GLV: First, I had to live the lessons. Before I could share the testimony that is within my book, I was required to go through the tests. Then it was simply a matter of retrieving the lessons and bringing them forth. I wrote every day. Each day, past experiences would come to mind. I first captured them in longhand, later I entered them onto computer. Initially, I needed to feel my hand on the pen; it felt more intimate as I put my thoughts, experiences and lessons down. I thought I would just write and then go back and place certain chapters in order, however, when I was finished with “Lessons” there was no need for that. The chapters were in the exact order they needed to be. I prayed and wrote, and wrote and prayed; after that it was out of my hands. God framed it the way He wanted it to be, I was just His willing scribe.

DT: Are there plans for another book, or did “Lessons Learned on My Way Home” say it all?
GLV: I’ve begun my second book, the title is “What About Ishmael?” The focus is on the state of mind we have when God is trying to talk to us about our Promise, yet all we can concentrate on is our Problem—our Ishmael. You’ll recall Ishmael was the product of flesh, impatience and unbelief. I’m excited about this next book, and like my first work, there will be lessons to learn. Look for “What About Ishmael” Spring 2004.

DT: What are some of your other interests?
GLV: I love to read and write poetry. I love soft jazz and just about all gospel music. I am an avid reader and I love nature. I also love to sing, but for now I only sing occasionally in my church and for very close friends.

DT: How has “Lessons” been received?
GLV: I am favored and fortunate to have received nothing but praise regarding “Lessons.” “Lessons Learned on My Way Home” was recently categorized a “MUST READ” book by Barb Wright, Reviewers International Organization. Individuals who have read the book state they laughed, cried and related to the universal emotions and lessons shared. People identify with “Lessons,” on many levels.

DT: For those who have yet to read “Lessons Learned on My Way Home” could you give an overview of what you feel is most relevant?
GLV: It’s All Good! No, seriously that’s a good question, Delores. “Lessons” will prompt the reader to revisit his/her own childhood, as I share my own. It is always good to make sure the foundation is holding up. This book is about family unity and pride. It calls out the pitfalls and dangers that await ‘wrong turns’. “Lessons” champions restoration and provides practical application to spiritual issues. “Lessons Learned on My Way Home” gives all the glory to God.
