Synopsis: Recently divorced artist LAURA lives a quiet life in Marin County, spending time preparing for an upcoming show. One day she sees a news story that a man, NATHAN, has been found dead, suspected of having jumped off the roof of his San Francisco apartment building. Something about this bothers her, and we follow her to a local retirement home, where she tells her friend FRANK what happened.
It turns out that Laura, Frank and Nathan all served on the jury for one of San Francisco’s most high profile cases: EVAN BARBER, an infamous serial killer known as the Midnight Murderer. The jury ultimately found Evan guilty and he was executed soon after.
While the authorities are quick to dismiss Nathan’s death as a suicide, Laura is suspicious. When Frank also turns up dead, the coincidence is too great to ignore. She starts looking into Nathan’s last days, and learns that he’d been working on a book about his experiences, and re-examining some of the evidence from the case. Meanwhile Laura starts to get the feeling that someone, or something, is following her. Could she be next?

Synopsis
A special day of bonding takes a dark and dangerous detour for an 11-year-old boy when his uncle’s violent past dramatically changes both their futures in LUV, a poignant and gritty coming-of-age story featuring standout performances by Common, Danny Glover, Dennis Haysbert, Charles S. Dutton and newcomer Michael Rainey Jr. With his mother in rehab and his father out of the picture, young Woody Watson (Michael Rainey Jr.) lives with his grandmother (Lonette McKee) in suburban Baltimore and longs for his family to be reunited. His charismatic Uncle Vincent (Common) has just returned home after eight years in prison, determined to straighten out his life by opening a high-end crab shack.
One morning, instead of dropping Woody off at school, Vincent decides to give the boy a tutorial on how a man gets things done. After a trip to a tailor to get Woody a customfitted suit, the pair heads to the bank to sign off on the loan Vincent needs to fulfill his dreams. But when a problem with the collateral puts the brakes on Vincent’s plans, his lack of legitimate business experience and his criminal record leave him with no good options. Desperate not to lose his only chance at success, Vincent throws back in with his former associates, convinced that one last score will set him free. With Woody in tow, he plunges into the violent world he thought he had escaped, running a drug deal for his exemployer, Baltimore crime boss Mr. Fish (Dennis Haysbert) and Fish’s brother Arthur (Danny Glover).
In the course of one harrowing day, Woody comes face to face with double-crossing thugs and brutal turf wars, and sees his beloved uncle in a tragic and frightening new light. Ultimately, the boy will have to decide whether to follow his flawed hero…or become his own man.

“It’s called ‘show business’ not ‘show arts.’ I needed the business savvy to turn
what I love into a career,” says Van Peebles. After three years of saving and
sleeping on a kitchen floor, Van Peebles got his first break acting in Heartbreak
Ridge opposite Clint Eastwood. He took that money and funded his first short film.
Soon after he was directing episodic TV including his own series for NBC produced by
Stephen J. Cannell called Sonny Spoon. His theatrical directing debut was the urban
gangster hit New Jack City, which became Warner Brothers’ most profitable movie of
1991. Van Peebles followed up with his multi-cultural western, Posse.
Van Peebles then directed and produced Panther, while his father wrote and produced
it. Panther is the story of the Black Panther Party’s rise to power. The film became
a political classic, earning both controversy and awards including the Locarno Film
Festival’s Silver Leopard award.
BAADASSSSS!, Van Peebles’ odyssey about the making of his father’s groundbreaking
film Sweet Sweetback’s Baadasssss Song was one of Ebert and Roeper’s 10 best movies

Artist and broadcaster Matthew Collings travels from London to Beijing in this sweeping four-part series and contemporary update of the BBC’s landmark 1969 series Civilization, with an expanded focus on non-Western art. The program was shot on location in Britain, France, Germany, Italy, Spain, Switzerland, Greece, China, Turkey, Egypt, and the U.S. and aired on the Ovation Channel in March 2009.
